certain is that it's carrying winds of about 65 miles an hour, at last report, still tropical storm strength. isaac still a tropical storm at this point. keep in mind it would have to reach wind speeds of 74 miles an hour toç become a igimal category one hurricane. they expect to the become hurricane strength later tonight, perhaps in the overnight hours. it's not strengthening quite as fast as forecasters had predicted so that's good news. they expect it to come ashore as a category one, perhaps category two storm and that's also an improvement over the earlier forecast when they predicted category two. it's going to be a huge rainmaker, could dump 10 to 12 to 14 inches of rain on new orleans and the entire coastal area here in as little asç a 24-hour period so. a massive amount of çrain, it will carry wind and people are taking it very seriously. there are mandatory evacuations in some of the lower lying coastal areas around new orleans, but here in new orleans itself, no mandatory evacuations at this point the mayor is taking a wait-and-see attitude. waiting to see what happens over the next

i wanted to show you all of the rain coming up on tropical storm isaac. a real big footprint with this tropical storm, so, rain all of the way out and to some eastern six of florida into the atlantic, south carolina, georgia already getting bans around the storm, and of course, the track now is heading to the northwest and here are some specifics. what is tropical storm isaac. the winds came up in the 5:00 update. 70 miles an hour winds. now, again, not too far away from the hurricane and movement is to the northwest at 12 miles an hour and what really is important here, the pressure really did take a drop. we saw seven millibars of pressure drop. with the new update and that is substantial and we know isaac is getting longer. it takes awhile for the wind to catch up with the pressure falling. i anticipate by tonight, isaac is going to be a hurricane. it's forecast to be a hurricane tonight and tomorrow. and this is the track here. taking it in to the west of new orleans and they that is by late, late tomorrow night and some winds at 100 miles an hour. the

the national hurricane center just issuing an updated track for tropical storm isaac, as that storm headses for the keys. >> we say it's heading there, but the outer bands are already hitting miami and miami beach. welcome to a new hour. isaac is gaining strength. forecasters expect it will be near hurricane strength when it makes landfall on the keys. the storm lashed eastern cuba yesterday, causing severe flooding, downing trees and powerlines, at least four people are dead in haiti. at least three more missing in the dominican republic. isaac expected to make landfall in the keys later today. 6,000 people have lost power in south florida. we will get a live report from key west later at this hour. but first, the latest from the fox extreme weather center. >> you saw the latest track there and the new advisory is just out. 65-mile-per-hour sustained winds. that's the same am but we do see some strengthening on the satellite imagery, the colder cloudtops. but this is the radar. the center of the storm is right there. you can see the courto counter clockwise winds and a tornado watch until

tropical storm isaac is gaining strength as it heads towards the united states. ida keys later today, as of this morning, the storm was centered about 205 miles southeast of key west. it is expected to gain strength and could become a category 2 hurricane. hurricane watches have been issued throughout the state.
