tropical depression nine expected to strengthen to a tropical storm. this is 2:00 a.m. tomorrow morning. this forecast from the hurricane center has slowed this thing down. so by 2:00 in the afternoon offshore. not expected to come-on land until early friday morning now. and that leaves us 48 hours to be dealing with the affects from this storm. notice the wind speeds from it, this is the yellow shaded area, the tropical storm-force winds. by tomorrow afternoon, still well offshore but we have the strong onshore wind ahead of it. combined with the high tide and combined with two days of rain. and flooding is going to be an issue. and now most of the tropical storm-force winds will be staying to our north but there is a tropical m the coastal airs of citrus, hernando and pasco. and notice the heavy rain continues through. how about traffic on the 8s? >>> all right, looking out here at the roadways, northbound on the super bowl. looks like -- at the sunshine skyway bridge, looks like we do have an accident. no delays but i am watching it for you. most accidents have clear

still tropical depression 9. we have been awaiting this to become a tropical storm for about 24 hours at this point. it's just not in the best of environments. the gulf waters may be warm. but it's facing a lot of wind shear. that's really preventing too much in the way of so you can see, it's still looking fairly disorganized on our satellite imagery. in the southern portions of the gulf at this point. moving to the west/northwest at 7 miles per hour. by thursday afternoon, thursday evening, we're expecting this to make landfall in the big bend region of florida. and at this point, expecting it to be a fairly strong tropical storm as it makes landfall land. then it really moves quickly as notice, by friday morning, it's already into the atlantic, moving away from us. so we're really narrowing in on the next couple of days. hurricane hunters were out investigating the storm this afternoon. only found winds to 39 miles per hour. we'll have to wait to see if it is upgraded at the 5:00 update. here's a look at our f

they have not upgraded this to a tropical storm. it is tropical depression 9. which is good. we want it to stay weak, but it is in a tough environment. dry air, a lot of wind shear. we didn't anticipate it would have. we noticed some major models trending. you can see the cone of air there does take us out of the cone of error. except for the small part of citrus county. the northern sections there. friday, and eventually into saturday, passing well to the north of us, what this does is we get closer to potential landfall some time on thursday. the cone shrinks just a little more. most of tampa bay is out of the cone of error. that doesn't mean we won't feel some efs. collin. it will go roughly the same path. trending a little further north with some of the computer models as we put them all on a map. as we analyze what it looks like from a distance, there is a circulation there and perhaps more thunderstorms on the southern part of the center of the storm. but, it just suggests that the dry air and the wind shear is having an impact on the storm itself. a look at the hurrica

still tropical storm nine. when i look at the state lite imagery, looks like a well formed tropical storm. i am going to read their discussion as to why they didn't upgrade it because it looks well formed. mexico. and still has the potential to strengthen which is why parts of the tampa bay area including parts of the big bend of florida, under a hurricane watch. now that doesn't mean necessarily that the system is expected to strengthen to a hurricane but the red shaded area in citrus, hernando and pasco, you could philhorse force gusts within 48 hours. more than likely tomorrow. inland areas of citrus, hernando and pasco, that's a tropical storm watch meaning force winds within 48 hours. here's this forecast. it is still to expected to strengthen today to a tropical storm as it makes the turn to the northeast. 50miles per hour wind biscayne this time tomorrow. it is a bit slower. notice this is 2:00 in the afternoon tomorrow. still kind of well offshore. 56miles per hour winds there. i expect it to come onsho

but tropical storm hermine will. it's this afternoon when the airplane found a wind strong enough to classify that it got upgraded. over the past 24 hours the computer models have been hinting a shift to the west. that is exactly what's happened the national hurricane center. remember, we can't see all the way into the gulf of mexico with radar. we don't see all the rain yet, but you see the clouds. it's getting a more well defined circulation. it's still got a long while. winds are at 45 miles per hour. so the big story was a pretty decent shift to the west, which, after it makes early friday morning, it will slow down, come over georgia and south carolina and over our area as we head into late friday night, early saturday morning. we're not going to worry about what it's going to be called. what we need to be worried about is the rain. as for a closer look at the track, i want to show you the middle of the new track. that's daunting seeing that. tropical system but a rain maker. i want to show you the current track

tropical depression 9, very surprised this is not upgraded to a tropical storm. still winds of 35 miles per hour, but i would think this is going to be a tropical storm by tomorrow morning when you wake up. here at 7:00, it is expected to be a 50-mile-an-hour tropical storm. national hurricane center brings it to 70 miles per hour when it makes landfall, coming on shore to the south of tallahassee. i would not be surprised to see this shifting off to the west, meaning it could be closer to our coastline. some of the computer models bring it back to the northeast. so this is going to be an interesting scenario over the next couple of days. if you're going down towards the beaches this sunday, you stay with this forecast, whether it's the outer banks or our beaches around ocean city. you definitely want to stay tuned to this forecast, because it is going to be changing a little bit. could have a detrimental impact on that forecast. if you're in the shade during the day, walking through buildings of downtown, looking pretty good. out in the sunshine, definitely on t

let's spend some time on the tropics. one of the most important things that we get during the tropical system when there's a system threatening the united states, the men and women for the airforce who are flying their hurricane hunter aircraft actively investigating the storm. op fly. they want to get through that high wall, taking as much data in as they can. this one coming from tampa and macdill. first with tropical depression number 8. no changes with the wind speed. 35 miles an hour is what it remains. therefore it remain as trod -- it has made that right turn. so the forecast track will keep it as a weak tropical depression into early tomorrow morning. then it will speed away. meanwhile, down in the gulf of mexico still a 35-mile-an-hour that has started to make a turn to the north but there's been a nudge to the west in the track of this system. so as it becomes a tropical storm in the next 48 hours it will make landfall close to florida sometime on thursday and speed up the east coast sometime friday either being

track changes with tropical storm hermine. it's something we've been watching very closely, because it will be impacting our labor day weekend forecast now. here's a look at the tropical storm, still in the gulf of mexico, swinging a lot of heavy rain into florida. expected to make landfall somewhere on the florida panhandle. the max winds are 45 miles an hour. so a fairly decent tropical storm. and here is the track for us. at the time that this storm would be approaching, it will be bringing pretty heavy rain and windy conditions. the track has it here saturday, 2:00 p.m., right around norfolk, and across our area by about sunday at 2:00 p.m. so sunday is the day that we expect the most deteriorating conditions. now, notice, as we go farther out in time, the cone gets wider. that's because of uncertainty, regardless of this storm goes anywhere inside this cone now, we're still going to have part of our labor day weekend impacted by it. with clouds, rain and wind. if you are along the shore, we have the threat for dangerous r

. >> we have been tracking this area for nearly a week and a half now as tropical wave, now a tropical depression. but even as 5:00 this morning, just now, it's the still a tropical depression. strengthen. it has winds of 35 miles per hour now. it's going to drift toward the central gulf of mexico today and tomorrow. during that time, it should become a tropical storm. and by 2:00 p.m. on wednesday, you can already see it starting to make the turn to the northeast. between 2:00 p.m. on wednesday anding the a.m. on thursday, our weather will start to -- wednesday and 2:00 a.m. on thursday, our weather will start to deteriorate. and between 2:00 a.m. on thursday and 2:00 a.m. -- on friday, that's the worst of the weather. this could come onshore anywhere from panama city all the way down here to tampa. but generally the models bring it in north of citrus county, around the big bend of florida. and that would puts on the southern side of the storm which would be the worst area of the storm. and then heads into the atlantic ocean. we don't have to werely about it anymore past the weekend.

we have tropical depression 8 here and tropical depression 9 is likely to be a stronger storm than 8. and that's going to zip across florida and out into the atlantic and hurricane gaston, not going to have a big impact on anybody. we do have a thunderstorm warning from morehead city to nags head, but we are not looking at major problems, 1-3" out here around cape hatteras, 35 to 45 wind gusts but not enough for damage. we have thunderstorms with stronger wind gusts than that. here's 2:00 a.m. tomorrow, so under 24 hours from now, should be a tropical storm but winds only at 40 miles per hour and offshore. so not a big deal for folks along the outer banks or any other and we don't get any rain out of this system. let's talk about tropical depression 9. it moves across florida late in the week, thursday into friday and it could dump up to 10" there, and then it will stay off the coast of north carolina with winds up to 60 miles per hour. that's impressive but it will stay away from us. i encourage you to keep checking in in case it changes. today or tomorrow. finally, thursday, a bette

it is still a tropical depression. i know for a past couple of a tropical storm. today you know, probably the day, if it's going to happen this really it's best chance. because it's got lower wind sheer over the system. still has some of that dry air back to the north. and northwest. but it looks like at least for most part it has been dealing with that dry air. now hurricane recognizance plane will be flying out there shortly. get a better idea of exactly where the center of this storm is. and the structure of the storm. right now in the intensity is imagery. and satellite data. 35 mile an hour winds 24.6. notice it's stationary really not good news. because basically sitting in that one spot over very warm waters, so it has that potential to strengthen as we go through the next day, day and a half here. it is expected to pick up more of that northeast elementary motion. and because it's slowed down. we've got to backed off on that track a bit instead of early tomoow fall. it looks like it will be tomorrow evening that it makes land fall and races across the stat

. >> we're tracking the tropics and tropical depression 9 is in the gulf of mexico. we'll meteorologist steve jerve. when will we start to feel the effects? >> the flow will help to increase the winds from the east. but wednesday and thursday is probably our peak day we'll see the efect of the tropical storm. not at this moment upgraded to a tropical storm. still a tropical depression. as we look at the computer models we call them the spa ge -- spaghetti models. the general trend is is to curve the system back to the northeast. it's a con sense sus as to -- consensus as to how far south it is. wednesday at 2:00 p.m. six per mile an hour winds the most of tampa bay northern polk northward is in the cone. this is called a cone of air meaning it can wobble quite a bit which is why we have to maintain our vigil of watching this thing. heavy rain, coastal flooding keep in mind the southern part is usually the strongest. as we look at the center and the hurricane hunters were just image rayry. you can -- imagery. you can see the thunderstorms to south are pushed farther t

here's tropical depression number 9. this looks better in terms of strengthen here down into the gulf of mexico this morning likely becoming a tropical storm later on today at it's not already there. it has been looking healthy in terms of tropical depression. emerging off the coastline saturday. confidence in this forecast until it gets the north carolina coastline. look at that cone and how widespread it is. you know if this tracks several hundred miles away we're partly sunny and breezy to end the weekend. if it's a lot closer to new england then we have to throw in stronger wind gust with this and we'll have to watch that track carefully. models all over the place. the reason for that is the question mark of where does this high block off the path of tropical system that will move up the coast. if it pushes back near the coastline or if this can move fast enough it can escape out to sea. all eyes on the tropical system as we get into late sunday and monday. we'll leave it delay for now. question mark regarding that t

we'll take a look at tropical depression 8, still a tropical depression. but quickly it should be taking a turn out to sea. could become a very weak tropical storm, as it does so. it will churn our waters up even more, so that rip current risk will be increasing. tropical depression number 9, in the gulf of mexico. it's still a tropical depression. it could become a tropical storm before it makes landfall. that would put it somewhere along the florida panhandle, and north of the tampa area. this is the most updated tracks from the national hurricane center. that would be by thursday afternoon. crossing over much of the southeast, moving out into the atlantic again, that would be by about saturday where it's closest to our coastline. but not moving in. it's going to stay offshore. but again, affecting our rip currents. we'll be watching that very closely. we don't expect rain from it, but we do expect an increase in, again, the rip currents at the shore. for tomorrow, your forecast looking pretty good. 88 degrees. if you are in reading, mostly sunny skies.

here is the forecast that will turn tropical depression eight into a tropical storm where it will be about 60 miles off the hatteras coastline tomorrow night. it will speed off to the northeast. the other one, tropical depression nine, will also make a turn to the right eventually for the next couple of days. it will stay in the gulf of mexico and crossover florida, then be about 200 miles off our coastline on friday night. minimal impacts. -- both storms away from the coastline along with this area of high pressure helping to pull it away. less walk you through the next few days. as you can see : there is tropical depression eight, continuing to slowly move off to the northeast while we stayed generally dry. a small amount of rain along our coastline. then we get into thursday with dry weather. her comes tropical depression number nine moving up the coastline. there is our cold front, the temperatures into the holiday weekend. a couple of more days in the 90s, there is that chance of rain thursday with the cold rock and then we have got mid to low 80s saturday, sunday, and monday
