msnbc trymaine lee is in ferguson. what is the latest for when this all might happen? >> reporter: thank you. to say a decision would be imminent is a vague term, but all indications point to any day now. ed mcgee, a sports person for st. louis county prosecutor's office says the grand jury is still meeting. this more than attorney general eric holder released a video saying he was calling for peace, urging calm and new guidance to law enforcement how to protect demonstrators' constitutional rights and keep peace. one school district canceled school monday and tuesday because of anxiety and uncertainty over a decision. also on thursday night, mike brown sr., the father of michael brown, released a video again saying he didn't want his son's death to be in vain and he hoped he would spark some change. let's take a listen to what he said last night. >> i thank you for lifting your voices to end racial profiling and police intimidation. by destroying property or hurting others is not the answer. no matter what the grand jury decides, i do not want my son's death to be in

let's bring in eugene o'donnell, trymaine lee, and best selling crime author, patricia cornwell, who spent years covering crimes. thank you for being back with us. trymaine, your big takeaways there. one of the big pieces is the fact that the national barred is part of the contingency plann g planning. that seems to me the headline here. >> what will strike a chord among those who have been protesting for 90-plus days, the governor said above all safety of the residents and citizens is paramount. they would say, what happened to michael brown's safety? it wasn't necessarily looters, it was tear gas and rubber bullets, so undoubtedly people will wonder, well, who are you protecting? are we or are we not citizens as well exercising our first amendment right? >> ms. cornwell, i'm interested in your take as to why the governor would preemptively do this type of press conference? the governor said specifically, we're not doing this because we think a ruling will happen but because we sort of want to be safe. this isn't the standard sort of protocol, is it? is it to put in the public's mind

. >> for the latest on the ground we head to ferguson, missouri, where nbc's trymaine lee is reporting day to you. what can you tell us about what's happening and the mood there on the streets? >> reporter: i'll tell you, what i don't think you can underestimate how agonizing this wait is for people on the ground. a few minutes ago i spoke with a protester who just wants to get on it. he wants a decision to come down one way or the other so they can organize, formalize their plans and hit the streets. schools are feeling the pressure to schedule around what may or may not happen. one school district, the jennings school district, canceled school on monday and tuesday ahead of the thanksgiving weekend holiday. people here are still anxious, they're nervous. again, these calls for peace are mounting. on thursday night, michael brown sr., the father of michael brown, had this to say. let's throw that video. >> by hurting others or destroying property is not the answer. no matter what the grand jury decides, i do not want my son's death to be in vain. i want it to lead to incredible change

joining me now, trymaine lee from ferguson.verybody on the streets upset by the announcement from the grand jury, but beyond that, in terms of looking forward and looking to the future, are there specific things that the protesters are looking for that can be done, that could come out of this positively speaking? >> now, there are groups that have organized from the very beginning, their main goal under a big banner that black lives matters and under that, systemic changes they want on the ground, in terms of the way the warrants, fines and fees are used. they adopted an ordinance about the way that money is used. they want more participation in the system. if you listened to president obama's speech tonight and he talked about the frustrations that many black communities in particular have with law enforcement. he said, it's not just a ferguson issue. it's an american issue. so a lot of this is about raising awareness. those in civil disaobedience training, those who are planning disobedience in the coming days, that will be a

. >> joining me now, trymaine lee who has been covering the events since michael brown's death. what's the move there? >> i'll tell you what, chris, it seems like a lifetime ago we were out here in this very spot. there's so much energy. you don't see that energy and you don't feel that energy now: when you talk to folks, it's not just anger. it's also a real worry and fear and concern. eventually, folks come out here in the street and they will be met with actual police. so there's a real concern there. it's not as angry and fiery as folks have been, but there's gearing up. >> what does that gearing up look like? we talked to a protest movement who's been talking drengt action hearings. there's a lot of things we saw down there in august, there's just a lot of organic anger. people walking down their block from their place of work. do you an tis pat a lot of that analysis? >> that's the big question. we know those who kind of formed organically and have different groups. hands up united and don't shoot coalition and on and on. now, in the summer, when that young man's body was

trymaine lee has been in ferguson. what do we know about the potential timing of that grand jury decision? >> my sources say that governor nixon will announce plans around the protest, particularly the national guard will be redeployed and stationed along businesses. n to contain the protests from reaching area businesses. none has been confirmed. we'll know in an hour what those plans are. >> do we have any idea of when the timeline could be for this to wrap up. we know there's more testimony to be heard by that grand jury. any ideas about timing? >> i spoke to ed mcgee a few days ago and he said the timing remains mid-november. then after that day to day and week to week. now, this kind of lag has kind of made folks on the ground, particularly nervous about what may or may not happen. i just to want read a station from ashley yates, a co-creator of millin aal activists united. until the governor chooses to truly address the systematic issues that the murder. that's the sense there on the ground, is that 90-some days

. >>> joining me now, reverend and national reporter trymaine lee. >>> reverend, let me start with youmentut doing actions today. i saw you in the streets last night, how are you thinking about the shape of these protests after what happened last night? >> last night, what we saw is a broken and bleegerred community that has been abused by every level of government. martin luther king noted in march of 1968 that a riot is the lang wuage of the unheard. we saw a democracy on fire because it has betrayed the promise that it has given to these young people. >> reverend, is there footage of some of the non-violent direct actions? there's some arrests, but there's also been marches across the country. there's been in l.a., in new york, in oakland. is there some part of you that wonders whether burning buildings are always going to attract more cameras than folks peacefully exercising their first amendment right? >> i mean, there's the sensationalist part of that. but there's something more at stake. for over a hundred days, these young people who are engaging in the second long eest nonviolent

outcome in this case because i think when we've talked to reporters on the ground including our own trymaine leeeports people are very cynical about the possibility of an indictment. >> because they're operating off of their feelings, their general emotion and attitudes towards certain people, so they come to the table with a cynical view. >> when you say certain people, do you mean the prosecutor, bob mccollough? >> not necessarily the prosecutor but members of our population and members of the community just simply give the benefit of the doubt to the police. and whatever theory that an officer may come up with, we have a natural inclination to want to believe it because they protect and they serve us. so that brings about it with a natural-born cynicism when somebody tries to challenge our inherent beliefs about our officers. so, yeah, they're going to always have that. always hold those cynical views until the very end of this situation. >> all right. anthony gray, thank you very much for being here. we appreciate it. >> okay. >> and coming up, we consider the russian factor in president oba
