all right. >> ok, so, tucson, arizona, as someone who's never been to tucson, what is sort of the quintessential thing about the c it that people should know? no longer a cowboys and indians kind of city, for sure. people are thinking about john wayne and western movies, that is something they definitely need to put out in their, of their mind. we're close to the border. so, that order politics is really important to a lot of people in tucson. veryve -- as a state is very conservative politically but tucson takes pride in being the button pusher city, the city that is a little bit more progressive than phoenix. one of the great things that tucson had for ages and then go through and come up congress here, we have always had a really burgeoning music scene. we've always had a great music scene since the 1980's when i was going to school here. also right here, congress here. this is right here, a very important part of that music scene. is constantly listed as being one of the best music venues in the country. congress also hosts a lot of national acts, and a strong place for local performancees.

presidio.t the tucson this is where metropolitan tucson springs from. it looks darn close to what was here to begin with. i would like to say the soul of the presidio is in each of these breaks. they do contain dirt from the original. the tower is really good. it's a real effective place. what's really wonderful about this museum is the fact that it's built on the spot where the actual presidio stood. on the ground we actually have an outline of where it was and of course, due to modern construction standards, the new walls can of offset. the presidio is marked. you can take a walk downtown to see exactly where it was. the design goes back to roman times. the spanish do it a certain way and they follow it all the way up. pile after pile of tall adobe bricks. interestingly they are not really worried about the native peoples attacking. they were not really worried about the brought -- the british, they were worried about the russians invading. what we have learned about the west is that there was a lot more cooperation among the different people than opp

i got my graduate degree here and i have been in tucson for 26 years. a 44% of latino population here. and like i said, i came in for college but i have lived here and i had never been to a national park ear. i got recruited out of the local county government here as the community engagement coordinator --ause i was -- as they said the target audience of the next 100 years. so there was almost an experiment to see what it would take to engage folks of my demographic to attend the parks. historically, the park service has not been inviting. but over the last five years there has been a concerted effort to try to engage, not just folks of color, and of different abilities. a lot of our facilities have been made accessible for folks with disabilities. so that is part and parcel of somei think is keeping folks away, they think it is the old national park service that somemited to vehicles -- folks think we are set up for professional hikers and we are not. it really is designed to be accessible to all. recently, we have funding to establish and all ada acce

we are starting on the place of tucson's birth, the presidio, a reconstructed presidio in downtown tucson. presidio san augustine, and this is where on august 20, 17 75, at this irish mercenary, hugo, an irish man, moved the presidio from tuback to tucson, and this is what we claim as our birthplace and birth to, august 20, 1775. 240 years ago. was not sure i could actually accomplish something different for an entire year every week. bisbee and moved to douglas. i stayed at a hotel on friday 13, and it is haunted just like about every hotel in arizona is haunted. i spoke with someone and she said, you know, these hotels are all haunted and historic. she said, i think it means the plumbing is bad. she was done with historic. she wanted something more modern. i would bounce a lot of things off of her. we are opposite in a lot of ways. so went to douglas and tombstone, of course, and a wonderful historian there took me around the town and talked to me about wyatt earp and who he really was. he called him a gambler and a pimp. wonderful guy, mark weisburger. dressed up in all the typical per
