"today in the bay's" kris sanchez live in san jose with what officers are telling her this morning. good morning, kris. >> reporter: good morning, laura. we talked to an officer at the scene while the vaks was under way. that officer now is back here at the san jose headquarters. and he just told me in the last 15 minutes that the remarkable thing about this scene is there was very little evidence. often when there is a collision, you'll see car parts or other debris that could help to identify the driver of that hit-and-run. but in this case, very little to go by, so they will be leaning on the public for help in this one. it's definitely a hit-and-run crash because the driver who struck that man did not stop, leaving that man to die on the middle of the tully road on-ramp onto southbound 101. moments after that man was struck, a good samaritan saw him, they did call 911 and stayed with the victim until the san jose fire department arrived. by that point the man had already passed aw

as you mentioned, this happened right here at southbound 101 and tully. the ramp is back open, but had been closed for hours because chp was investigating. around 1:15 am officers received a call that a man was down, pedestrian on the telly on-ramp to southbound 101. firefighters were unable to save the man and he was pronounced dead at the scene. police say from looking at the scene and the victim it appears he was hit by a vehicle. but there was no car that had stopped with damage. officers are calling this a hit and run crash. they don't have much to go on and are asking anyone who might've been traveling in the area of 101 and tully past 1 am to call them if they saw anything. at this point all we know about the victim is he was a man in his mid to late 40s. it is unknown what he was doing on the freeway on-ramp. >>> you, the public will have a chance to give input on reforms proposed by the justice department for san francisco police after series of deadly police shootings. federal authorities released a report last month that concluded the police de
