a lot of thanks for having me i just got back from the u.c. davis cup by where about fifteen thousand students alumni and davis community members and i did number of media i crammed in to listen to speeches for about an hour from students who were pepper sprayed and from other activists who have been participating in this movement. following that the chancellor finally addressed the students apologizing to the fifteen thousand people there but not resigning and her comments were quite short and i would say that you clearly base and i want to get into the chancellor and her response but also let's talk about you know what it was the police did and this pepper spraying this unnecessary violence i wish that i could say that this was an isolated incident and it just happened to be u.c. davis and that was unfortunate but i think that as this often time movement has continued on as it's grown we start seeing it everywhere so does that tell you that when it comes to our police tactics and the brutality and the violence that really is a national issue

so because of this video we were just talking about the u.c. campus u.c. davis campus police chief along with those two officers has been placed on administrative leave as i mentioned before paid leave and students and faculty adds a vis are calling for the chancellor who was just talking about lindsay to tell you to step down but one of those faculty members is nathan brown assistant professor in the english department he wrote a letter an open letter to the chancellor describing in detail some of the effects the pepper spray had on the students he also called for the chancellor to step down and i want to read just a little part of that letter he said you are responsible for it because this is what happens when you see chancers order police on to our campuses to disperse peaceful protesters through the use of force students get hurt faculty get hurt one of the most inspiring things inspiring for those of us who care about students who assert their rights to free speech and free assembly and in the last hour i spoke to the author of that letter nathan brow

u.c. berkeley officials say six people were arrested. occupy u.c. berkeley is about fee hikes and the cutbacks in classes. and students we talked to consider themselves the 99 percenters. they say they want change. >> the occupation was endorsed both by the graduate assembly and the associated students of the university of california. this is not just a wildcat thing. this is endorsed by the student body. >> part of our general assembly to encamp and as long as we can. we're going to stay here until we feel our voices are heard by the administrators here and the state legislature. >> reporter: this occupy protest taking a playbook from the oakland protest. they're having a general assembly right now. the vice chancellor of student affairs, as i said, is set to address this crowd momentarily. campus affairs spokesperson says that the protesters were notified that encampments were unlawful. that's what they're going to explain to the students here tonight. students, however, say they're vowing to stay. reporting live at u.c. berkeley, i'm cheryl hurd.

right that's the tally through last night that doesn't include deep thirty nine who were arrested at u.c. berkeley and it doesn't include a few others that were arrested today. and what what is the latest josh with what's going on in oakland is another police crackdown in minutes. it certainly looks that way as i mentioned in the opening the san francisco chronicle reported that police had cancelled a training exercise in the next stage would be to chance all vacation time and leaves and see request assistance from other departments if you'll remember the original crackdown there were as many as seventeen different local law enforcement agencies engaged in it and the the four council members who came out yesterday along with the chamber of commerce which one might expect to kind of decry the occupation and demand its ouster also threatened mayor gene and said that if she didn't forcibly remove them quickly rapidly they were perhaps no confidence vote against her so she's feeling pressure from. you know being buffeted from the left for the for the violence of these crackdowns and also for
