we also expect a pretty strong results season for the u.s. banksally on the capital markets side. we expect to report a really strong quarter. for the banks it is really all about that yield curve. that has been the major driver of that re-rating you have seen in the sector. one element we are going to be watching in terms of the us us bank reports we will see this week is on the reserve releases relate the to loan numbers. banks were conservative last year. i think there is potential there for further release. that would be an interesting barometer to see. we think the sector is pretty well placed this year for further opening of the economy and the potential for more capital returns. when you think about dividends, u.s. banks maintained their dividends. european banks had to suspend theirs. but we think those will resume. way the sector has enjoyed a strong rerating for pricing and book perspective, we think there is more roof for up side a as we think about economies reopening globally. >> you talked about the reserve releases from the loan loss

this used to be the best-performing large bank in the u.s.. of the top four. wonderful news. but again, if you look at revenues, they are flat. there is no loan demand as you were just talking about in that segment before. so, banks are facing a difficult environment where there is slack demand, they are fighting for large assets, competing with funds, all sorts of other players because these are big banks. they don't care about alone and thus it is billions of dollars. they are seeing prepayment. as the previous guest was talking about with credit cards. they are seeing prepayments in commercial loans. so that means they have to go out and find a new loan. it is a competitive environment for big banks. i like smaller banks in the large bank group because they have more pricing power. big banks have to give up so much to get alone today, the loan is often not even profitable. you are seeing some banks cross their armpits and say they're not going to bother, those trillions of dollars that the fed has put into the u.s. banking system, they can't really use for

karen: for the u.s. bank is slightly more obvious is not only do you a bit of a tail wind from what is happening with the yield curve, but there is more scope for earnings growth from a credit cycle. we've all been focused on governments leveraging up and taken our eye off the fact -- 10 years ago household debt was 100% of gdp it is 78% today. now we have these low interest and households have received a load of stimulus checks. the economy is improving. i think we will get a credit cycle. it will be one of the areas that will cap us out in terms of how much the u.s. booms. that is the aspect of the story that is less obviously apparent for europe. i think you will get the tailwind from the curve. still steepening slightly. do not forget the first six weeks of the year when it was not just the treasury selloff. we saw global bond yields everywhere pushing up. it is important to remember about how interest rates were affecting the financials. being repriced is the idea interest rates will be stuck at these le
