u.s. military personnel are on the ground in nigeria, part of 16 u.s. personnel. they've been tried to pinpoint where the girls are being held by the islamic fighters known as boko haram. they're trying to help the mothers and fathers of these young girls. and now the pentagon is discussing the possibility of moving surveillance and reconnaissance assets towards nigeria, possibly drones. a senior u.s. official tells me they're waiting for nigeria to formally make the request. however, there is still no talk of sending armed u.s. troops to assist the search. outrage ensued three weeks after the kidnapping when this video appeared from the leader of boko haram boasting about converting them to islam, threatening to sell the girls into slavery. the u.s. placed a $7 million bounty on him last year. in november, designate the boko haram a foreign terror organization after the state department refused to do so for several years. it means western education is a sin. the first lady tweeted this picture demanding the girls' return. the nigerian president who did not speak

u.s. and nigeria has? >> one option is u.s. special forces have detachments in certain african countries. think about the army resistance in uganda where the u.s. is playing a role in trying to hunt down the leader of that group. so far unsuccessfully. so you can imagine that the nigerian government may request additional help from u.s. forces which operate in these countries and can provide some help in trying to locate this. but i defer to vlad if that is politically feasible. >> vlad, what about that? is that feasible. i've seen the government now kind of blaming the parents, saying, well, the parents haven't given us all the information about their kids. >> yeah, that's sort of a head scratcher, anderson. the president yesterday saying that the rescue efforts were being hampered by the fact that the parents had not provided pictures or names of the children missing. parents that we have spoken to say they've been threatened by the militants if they release their names and pictures to the public, to the press, those children

u.s. help is on the way to nigeria. l looking for hundreds of girls kidnapped by the terror group boko haram. today, seven members of the u.s. military will join the dozens of advisers on the ground already, desperately trying to figure out where those schoolgirls are being held. this, though, comes amid new worries that the girls may have been taken across the border into cameroon, into chad or niger. the pentagon now says it thinks the girls have been split up, possibly into smaller groups. of course, that will make them much, much harder to find. vladimir duthiers is live in abuja with the latest. vlad, what can you tell us this morning? >> reporter: hey, john. well, those fears by the u.s. government and also the united kingdom is what the parents in chibok have told us all along that they were worried about. they had told us that they had seen convoys of trucks on this road leading from borno state into neighboring cameroon. they say that they saw young girls on those trucks. they say they saw militants guarding tho
