ukiah north looks to be the greatest opportunity.e opportunities on the east bay and south bay, but not a lot. the heavier amounts are to the north. a stronger system is going to lift everything northward. you can see where the bull's eye as we head into wednesday and thursday. then is starts to roll in. this will be a better system for san jose which really missed out on the last one. that was more of a zonal pattern, west to east. santa cruz mountains took all the rain in that pattern. this is more what we call north to south. that's a better opportunity for san jose and other areas, santa clara that did not get a lot of rain, blossom hill as we head towards thursday night and friday. after that it's all cold air. it looks like it's going to be very cold into the weekend. 50s on the temps to near 60 degrees. so cloudy today to mostly cloudy. some breaks here in the morning. highs will be 50s to 60s, and then tomorrow breezy and warm. i think that system lifts northward and we get a pretty good southeast wind and then it looks like

we're seeing that around cloverdale south of ukiah, we also have spotty light rain elsewhere including the santa cruz mountains where we have that flash flood watch in effect throughout the day. here is what to expect, winds kicking up to 20 to 40 miles an hour, that could cause trees down and power issue. also rising referring levels. also street flooding. in thesierra, we talked about that, up to 20 inches in spot. the rain becoming more widespread for the north bay. more coverage through late morning, early afternoon, and the bright red shows very intense downpours and some strong winds. that will also be moving through the north bay still at 3:00 this afternoon. the rest of us seeing that during the evening commute, 6:30. a lot of people still out there on the roadways and that rain will cause the standing water on the roads and it could cause spinouts too. it clears out late tonight or early morning with cooler air moving in and the winds picking up. sustained winds about 20 miles an hour, up to 40 miles an hour for the norlt bay. by the evening commute, the winds will will be ver

not so much for ukiah and lake county. and now moving over to napa county.ou can see some of the heavier there. napa, sonoma, petaluma and over towards inverness. the heaviest is getting closer to san rafael. not there yet. it has about an hour or two to go. now, moisture coming up from the west/southwest. not associated with the front. it has moved into the peninsula. santa cruz mountains. also the santa clara valley. that's not the front. the front though is on its way. so is the associated low. once that arrives, the rain rates will really pick up. the breeze and wind advisories are up. gusts to 50 in higher elevations. it is all out of the east, out of the south/southeast. that is a relatively warm pattern for now. the cold air arrives tomorrow and gets really cold as we go into the weekend. there's a long way to go on this system. it is tapped into tropical moisture. two lows, one a colder source coming out of the gulf of alaska. the other one coming up from the hawaiian islands. rain and heavy winds. tomorrow morning, most of this will be done. off and

these clouds are sideswiping the northwest quadrant of the state of california leaving clouds in ukiahreka you have rain showers today. no tule fog in the central valley. can we all say sunblock? >> sunblock! >> thank you. you need it because we have spring-like conditions in the high sierra. we are talking temperatures in the mid-40s today and on wednesday. that after 15 inches of powder fell over the weekend. take a look at our numbers in the 50ss across the board from rockaway beach in pacifica through the rim of the bay into mountain view all the way into east palo alto. including the eastern portion of our bay area all the way up to discovery bay. 57 degrees in san jose. and tonight dipping down 30 santa rosa, mid-30s san jose, 40s across the bay. that's why we'll indeed have that freeze warning in effect. 4:58 the sun goes down tonight and when it does, boy it, cools off really quickly. 67 degrees thursday. that will be in santa cruz and here you have your fireworks forecast for new year's eve. we'll have partly to mostly cloudy skies. and by midnight temperatures in the 40s. >>>

we'll have an onslaught of rain up to 4 inches in the coastal mountains up to ukiah.ally one to two inches around the bay area. that will cause some flooding on the roads especially when you couple that up with the king tides that will occur at 11:41 tomorrow morning add 6.9 feet. so here we go. boy, almost 1.5" of rain in hayward. see this highlighted area? that encompasses over 300,000 people that will receive a half foot of rain by thursday night. that will definitely cause some problems. then winds up to 35 miles per hour, we could see downed trees and power lines. so what does this mean for the sierra? today it's sierra cement. by thursday when that colder air filters in, up to two feet of snow is expected so if you are in the tahoe area, north star, south shore, north star -- you're going to see some heavy snowfall and that will occur again on thursday night. 7:18 sun-up. by then we'll see temperatures in the 50s going up to highs in the 60s. pretty much the last times we see 60s for a while except for tomorrow, then temperatures into the 50s over the weekend. t

rainfall totals anywhere from a quarter inch to .75 inch, maybe over an inch in spots like ukiah and heavy snow for the sierra. the possibility of at least a foot of snow, maybe even 1.5 feet, up to 2 feet in some of the higher elevations. we'll talk mosh about that coming up. let's start with a little south bay slowing with mike. >> very little. you mentioned the chains. kari mentioned the chains from the sierra and her friend from florida not knowing about that. we have chains here because we don't have snow tires. the chain helps for that short period when we have to get to the summit. a little slowing for the south bay. i was watching slowing. i watched it long enough that i stared it down. it cleared. it did clear over the last couple minutes. that's how light the volume of traffic is here. we'll show you the rest of the bay. we're getting toward the bay bridge. the only thing on the map that we worry about is fog in the north bay. nothing of note from chp. the bay bridge metering lights are on. the san mateo bridge, we end with a nice easy drive to the peninsula. >>> coming up

reason why live doppler 7 showing you, we have a shield of moisture to our north, jut to the north of ukiahr first storm that will stall over the north bay tomorrow and bring light showers. on the storm impact scale, this is a one mainly in the north bay and santa cruz mountains. light amount of rainfall. an ice lighted shower outside of the north bay. hour by hour on wednesday, 6:00 in the morning, isolated showers confined to the north bay. anyone is fair game for a light sprinkle first thing. activity though confined to the north bay even into the evening. 6:00 on wednesday, much of the activity probably around santa rosa. our next storm as we approach thursday. that's when we get a major upgrade on the scale to become a 3, a strong storm headed our way on thursday. the last time we had a 3 was back in march. nine months ago. we are in store for moderate to heavy rain, gusts it 35 to 40 miles an hour. the chances for flooded areas. future weather will pick it up early thursday morning, 7:00 in the morning, light showers around the region. watch what happens as we get later into the morni

up in windsor. 28, 34 for truckee and also for reno, and then low 40s to mid- 40s to even 50s from ukiah to sacramento. we have to wait for the deeper moisture, if you will to start working in. this is headed northward. the farther north you go, the better opportunity for some rain to develop. it will still be a cloudy day and temperatures continuing to be in the upper 50s and maybe a few low 60s towards the santa clara valley. but draw your attention to the moisture source which keeps streaming in. and as long as that's there, the possibility of rain. there won't be too much, say, south of san francisco. that's probably a little overdone for san jose. but tonight look where the bull's eye is. it's up north. that's only going to continue. and then thursday will be our main system, late thursday and into friday and then the really cold air starts to spill in friday night into saturday. so looks pretty good for everybody. i mean, nothing we can't handle, but there could be some brief, really intense rain on thursday night. i'll get to that as we get closer to it. be advised. wind and rain
