we're still seeing that in ukiah and marin county.ere we are seeing some clearer air compared to what we've had in the past few days. and i do think this will continue for day, at times some drifts of smoke, but not as bad as it has been all throughout the week. as we watch a storm system approaching from the north and we're seeing some of that rain popping up on the radar, we can see the storm system on the satellite, and our temperatures are nice and a little bit cooler today reaching into the mid-70s for milpitas today, reaching 75 in morgan hill, and 80 in east san jose. for the east bay we're seeing some spots reaching up to about 82 degrees in livermore. the warmest spot antioch, 84 degrees. i think a lot of it a rest as wy some fresh air. for san francisco mostly upper 60s. napa today headed toward 73. 76 in sonoma, and 88 in ukiah. so we are going to have a big cooldown. we've all been looking forward to helping us out here with a fire situation that we've had throughout the season. we start out with some spotty showers moving

this is so-called hopkins fire burning north of ukiah. some good news to report, cal fire says as of this morning, the fire is 20% contained. all evacuation orders issued yesterday have been reduced to warnings. it's burned more than 250 acres. >>> developing right now, more evacuees being allowed to return to their homes in the burn area of the caldor wildfire in tahoe. but in many cases, these are people returning to little more than ash and rubble in the area around grizzly flats. today, authorities opened and shut down areas including a major stretch of highway 50. that fire is 67% contained. containment in the dixie wildfires is at 65% containment, as firefighters remain concerned about conditions taking a step backwards this week. over the weekend, crews made headway on some of the front lines there. the fire near lake alminor is nearing 1 million acres burned. it's by far california's worst wildfire this season and the state's second most destructive ever. people around here want to know if all of that wildfire smoke will start cre

maybe ukiah gets 0.01 inches of rain. it's too early to get to pacific.ined over the next few days. it is a whole pattern shift in the weather. we will get cooler. humidity levels will go up. we will start pushing the smoke away, fisher, for early next week. the morning lows tomorrow, we will still have smoke around, because it hasn't changed just yet, and look at how much cooler the numbers are now for saturday. they go to the mid-80s for the in the valleys, that's average. you've been in the 90s for much of the last week. temperatures in the bay go down to average. and in the 7 day forecast, we watch the trend go up and down a little. there's no really big swings. look at the clouds for monday and tuesday. we will do this again. you see it more so for the north bay valleys. i didn't put rain. not confident enough for rain yet, but there are clouds on monday and tuesday, and cooler temperatures. the best part, cleaner air, rain on the very dry landscape to the northwest. these are early fall systems. it's great. we love them to do more, but the fact they

north bay highs in the low 80s from mill valley and reaching 99 in ukiah. now we are of course still monitoring the drought and looking across the region. all of these areas are in some kind of drought at least abnormally dry but some of the worst of the drought continues to be right here in california and even right here in the bay area. so looking at about 45% of our state and the highest level of the drought exceptional drought and about 88% of the state is in the extreme category or higher. so this extreme drought continues. we look to see if there is any rain in the forecast. there will be a storm system approaching heading into the early part of next week. but a lot of that rain just kind of falls apart before it gets here. one thing it will do? help cool us off so as we look at our ten day forecast for a spot like livermore we're hot today, warm tomorrow, then cooler for the weekend. by next week we're talking about highs in the upper 70s so it is going to be really nice. so for our inland temperatures it will be cooling off over the next several day

it destroyed 46 structures 30 homes, and burned 250 acres near ukiah. authorities arrested who they believe intentionally started that fire. >>> air quality advisory is now extended through today. meteorologist, kari hall, keeping her eyes on these unhealthy air-conditions we have been facing. >> people with breathing problems and anybody sensitive to the wildfire smoke is being bothered by all the smoke moving in. this is a step down from the spare the air alert, so the general population will not be affected as a lot of the smoke drifts aloft, it gives a hazy look to the sky and the air quality for all of the micromy microclimates today. san francisco, mostly in the mid-60s. even down to the south county we are seeing a cooldown with morgan hill reaching 80 today, and 76 in san jose and 81 in livermore. we are also watching out for an approaching storm system still well to the north of here, and it could hit some of the fire zones with much needed rain. we'll talk about that timeline coming up in a few minutes. >>> we have a system-wide delay reported

our north bay temperatures going to 73 in ukiah. the temperatures cooler than normal even ahead of the cold front headed our way. this is going to be bringing the showers saturday into sunday, and it's nice that will be falling in some of the fire areas. we have ten active fires right now across northern california and a lot of these spots look to get from a quarter to possibly three quarters of an inch of rain. we are looking at mostly a trace, maybe up to 0.1 of an inch of rain around santa rosa, but if you are not around santa rosa you probably won't see too much out of this, and there's a trace of rain and at least there's sprinkles on the garden as we go into sunday. we're still in the low 80s today. our temperatures are coming down, but we have upper 70s and mid-70s for sunday. then look at how the temperatures rebound next week. officially we welcome in fall next wednesday. san francisco will see mostly mid-60s, but it's going to warm up again as we go into the first day of fall. mike, you were tracking breaking news. what is

70s tomorrow and the north bay, highs in the mid to upper 90s around santa rosa and 90 degrees for ukiah. there is a chance we may see some showers on thursday and friday. there is a twist to this that may not be so good. this looks pretty good offshore. we got some showers here, notice we are going south to north. a second ban of moisture coming in during the day on thursday showing up right there which started to get our attention. we'll bring a chance at times seeing some showers but may also bring the unwelcome site of lightning. these are the areas in blue we are watching. some of those showers may have some lightning involved with them. here is the timing. as we get into thursday and friday, we may see a few isolated showers on thursday afternoon. the time frame is thursday night into friday. whatever rain that falls is not expected to be all that much. we may get a little something on the ground. in terms of fire danger, we have to watch for any chances of lightning given how dry conditions are around the bay area. in the timing on that will be thursday and friday. coinciding with

let's move it off to the north bay, coming if with the warmest weather through ukiah at 93. and down to sonoma, 88. i want to fast forward things to next week. i know what you want. you want rainfall. i'm hearing from a lot of you, and things are continuing to pan out with our mid-month chances for some rainfall. here's the deal. wednesday, look at all this activity. this is next wednesday, lining up out here in the pacific. then once we hit next friday, right there on october the 8th, you can see how this would be moving in from the south. so a pretty decent moisture cap the way it looks now. on early estimates for next friday, and also into saturday, the 9th, i've got .0500 to .256789 we're definitely trending in the right direction. we've got a lot of headway to make up, but this is what we need to see. right here in san francisco, upper 60s and low 70s, then it drops off next wednesday as the system approaches, and right here across the inland valleys, low 90s into next monday and things drop off to 77 by next wednesday as the system approaches. great news to report for
