we're hearing for the first time from a man rescued from that cement silo in union city. >> it played out last week on live tv. he was rescued after two hours of being stuck. nbc bay area sheryl herd was there for the rescue and is back for the interview. >> i feel like i could go to work right now. >> reporter: he may feel like he can return to work at u.s. pipe and gound ri in union city but looking at the hands and legs, you know that it wouldn't be a good idea right now. last thursday, alameda county firefighters in the fight of their lives to save this young man. >> it was just checking. level cement. i missed my footing. and fell down. >> reporter: the first indication that he was sinking fast in this 25-foot silo filled with dry cement. >> i started shaking. and i just felt like as if it was quicksand. >> reporter: up to his chest. >> co-workers ran up. tried to pull me out. >> reporter: it wasn't that easy. he suffers from rope burns to his hands and chemical burns on his leg. he struggles a little to speak because cement particles are still in his lungs. >> couldn't breathe.
