ford says the offer of a 23% raise to the united autoworkers union is the best it can do.cerers telling bloomberg that the firm -- sources telling bloomberg that the uaw is looking to emerge from the strike with a 30% pay raise and other improvements in condition. bloomberg data suggests u.s. banks are set to write off more bad loans and they have the pandemic as higher for longer rate take their toll on consumers. we will get insight later as jp morgan, citigroup and wells fargo all kick off the earnings season. the chart you are looking at shows the banks, the full 500 and on the surface, rates should be a positive things because the banks can charge more on the higher rates and make extra profit that does not seem to be the case. there is the upper bound when you look at how high the rates will go in the momentum, selling the bond market is not always a positive thing for the more rate sensitive sectors like the financials. joining us more for the earnings picture is charlie wells onset waking up early for us. what are analysts expecting apple -- expecting? charlie: it

general motors sweetening their offer to the united autoworkers' union.a, tell me what gm's offer was and tell me if the union has responded. >> reporter: they have not yet responded, stuart, but they have sweetened the offer, as you report. of they stood firm on the dollar, still looking at 20 the percent increase and and -- 20% and, of course, the union's seeking 36%, but they increased cost of living adjustments, they reinstated the the cost of living adjustments, and they added some money in to the retirement savings. so, you know, we'll see where it goes from here. the impact of the strike though continues to be felt at gm particularly more than others. take a look at the layoffs as a result of the strikes. in addition to the people on strike the, about 25, 30,000, 2300 people laid off at gm. ford, almost 2,000 people and stellantis, about 640 layoffs as a result of the strike. it now stretches across 23 states if you count in the mack truck strike that just started this week, and, you know, the support for the strike the, well, democratic politician

breaking news just moments ago, the head of the united autoworkers union announcing progress in talkske is working but they're not there quite yet. jesse kirsch is in ohio with the latest details on this. i know we just heard from shawn fain. give us the details of what we know and how much longer this may last. >> reporter: as for how much longer this may last, don't have an answer for you there. that is obviously part of the union's core strategy is keeping everyone guessing about where they may or may not move next, but what i can tell you at least for the time being, the uaw has not expanded its strike. so this is the first week since the strike began, so week by week, we have seen the strike expand twice now. there was the initial strike, and then they expanded against gm and stellantis, and then they expanded against ford and gm, and each of those two expansions, the company that was left out was said to have made progress according to the union. this time around the union did not announce any new strike expansion. that is a point of significance. the other thing that stood out

i've also reached out to united autoworkers for confirmation on this tentative agreement that is being reported by cnbc. the unionnting on this. we're still waiting to see what might come out of that. here's what we know broadly about the situation. the uaw says it has gotten a 25% wage bump across the length of a contract with both ford and stellantis, and talks about other things including cost of living adjustments and retirement benefits, and there's alsoeen job security in the ectric vehicle battery space, so those are the things that we know about from the ford and stellantis deal. we'll be looking to see what comes out of a general motors tentative agreement. this was the last company of the big three to be reaching an agreement with the united autoworkers. all of this really is like dominos falling. this has all happened in the last few days. since late last week this has been going on with one company after another. it appears that this strike is coming to a conclusion. >> and so does that mean everything goes back to normal immediately, or what does the, you know, getting business up and running again l
