we're watching protests growing in baltimore and across the united states tonight. there are calls for special prosecutor. after baltimore's top attorney her name is marilyn mosby, brought charges against six officers in the death of freddie gray. in a letter to mosby released today, the head of baltimore's police union defended the police strenuously saying they were innocent and then wrote, quote, i have keep concerns about the many conflicts of interest presented by your office conducting an investigation in this case. now these concerns include moby's relationship with the freddie gray family attorney billy murphy. he's a donor of hers. you see him there. the police union also points out that mosby's husband is a baltimore city councilman. mosby says there is nothing to make her step aside. >> my husband is a public ser rant. she works on the legislative side. i'm a prosecutor. i am also a public servant. i uphold the law. he makes the law. i will prosecute any case within any jurisdiction. >> don lemon is out front in baltimore. you just spoke to her, the state

baltimore's state attorney marilyn mosby speaking on friday. she is the youngest state's attorney of any major city in the united states. police union officials are now calling for mosby to appoint an independent prosecutor, saying her marriage to baltimore city councilmember nick mosby is a conflict of interest because his district includes the area where gray was arrested. she addressed this during her news conference on friday. >> my husband is a public servant. he works for the legislative side. i'm a prosecutor. i'm also a public servant. i appalled the law. i will prosecute any case within my jurisdiction. amy: all six officers charged in gray's death have since posted bonds of $250,000 to $350,000. meanwhile, alan bullock, one of the 18-year-olds who turned himself in for participating in riots, is facing a bond of $500,000. his stepfather maurice hawkins and mother bobbi smallwood reacted to the amount in an interview with the guardian. >> that is my son on top of the police car with the cone in his hand, hitting the window. we don't condone that. and we believe in peace. i just want justice to be held and not to

right now members of the baltimore united coalition are march from the baltimore state's attorney's office heading right here to city hall. we start with msnbc's craig melvin. what do you got? >> reporter: let's start with the six officers who were charged tour'e five of them we know at this point are in custody. the mayor held a news conference roughly an hour ago. she did not give anymore information where that sixth officer is. at this point, we've got a number of calls out as well number of calls out to find out where that officer is and whether he's going to be turning himself in in the near future. the officers have also we're told been suspended. the mayor asked commissioner batz to suspend the officers immediately. up until this point they had been suspended but suspended with pay. that supposedly changed a short time ago we're told. we can also tell you that moving forward at this point, it appears as if that the mayor expects this is coming from a mayor staffer, she expects the protests and rallies this weekend should be peaceful. it's very interesting to hear the state's attorne

baltimore police department. this has been a top priority for the top lawyer in though united states. attorney general has only been on the job one week. she went to baltimore early this week to meet with community leaders and acknowledge that they have come a long way in recent months to improve the relations that are obviously very tense between civilians and the police. but there is the concern that there is more that could be done. this investigation will look specifically at things like arrest practices, whether or not arrests are done with probable cause, whether or not police are engaging in pattern of discriminatory policing. so that's what this investigation is about. >> let's talk about that. as far as this investigation goes, how long do these things typically take? we know they have investigated other city's police departments. >> reporter: right. the one that comes to memory most quickly, of course, is ferguson missouri where we saw a similar investigation that was conducted. you will remember that that one took upwards of more than six months. that's because what will hap
