there was not another naval officer in the united states navy that could have been a better choice. admiral rodman was known for his affability, diplomacy, he was an expert seaman and navigator. he had the exact characteristics that blended well with his royal navy counterpart. with, as i pointed out -- bayly.iley the commander of the u.s. forces an outstanding working relationship. admiral rodman was later made a knight commander of the bath by the king. there is battleship 9 steaming in. they became the sixth battle squadron of the british grand fleet in december 1917. admiral rodman realized that the procedures, the cipher messages, allcodes, the flag signals, of this was different between the u.s. navy and the royal navy. some officers would have said, no we are going to keep our owns. -- on our own. admiral rodman said we will operate as a discrete squadron and we will need to use these signals. he said they would adopt the royal navy procedures. the royal navy sent radio operators. they were so effective that three days later, battleship squadron six were able to go to and oper

you know the united states navy just can't seem to stay out of the headlines this week watchers first there was lasers now it's the second fleet you remember them the fleet that used to guard the picturesque u.s. eastern seaboard and protect the north atlantic from those evil soviet submarines during the heady days of the cold war the fleet was finally disbanded back in two thousand and eleven to save a couple bucks since the days of hunt for red october repeatedly thought to be relegated to the pages of history books and fiction well. much like hollywood it appears the us military industrial complex is fresh out of new ways to squeeze money out of its citizens so why not just stop and reimagine old ones yes the us second is coming back according to the chief of naval operations admiral john richardson the second plea will be reactivated and resume operations out of norfolk virginia july the first right in time for the united states to celebrate its independence day and why why why why why are we bringing back the second fleet you ask well here's a hint starts with r. and.
