weather channel meteorologist mike seidel is in upstate new york, right in the thick of of the storm. mike, good evening. >> reporter: good evening, ann, heavy snow, whipping winds and whiteout conditions, we're certainly getting the worst of the storm here in western new york state. and although they did get more snow in chicago and detroit, they didn't get the blizzards we have been stuck in the middle of since mid morning here in rochester. these winds over 50 miles an hour, that combined with a foot of snow in some spots led to three-foot drifts. tonight temperatures tumble here into the single numbers. and more snow on the way. the forecast, if you're a skier and love march skiing you are in good shape. over a foot of snow will fall at least in some of the ski resorts. new york city you will miss this one, probably few complaints after this snowy winter, and in boston, after the gusty northwest winds you will see an inch or two of snow. >> all right, thank you so much, mike seidel. and get inside, thank you so much. meantime, retired u.s. general ola lee mize has died. he was a r

we have a weak alberta clipper system bringing a little light snow to portions of upstate new york.k out here. in the west we have a winter storm pushing on through spreading the rain along i-5 from seattle into portland, and northern portions of california, a lot of this moisture over the mountains and bring in the gusty winds into portions of montana. we have flood watches and warnings in effect. generally speaking with look at 1 to 4 inches of rain, especially across the washington cascades. be careful if you're traveling there. also, a bit of moisture along the i-10 corridor here across southern portions of louisiana and back into mississippi and georgia as well later on in the day. generally speaking across the southeast, it's a very comfortable day. temperature-wise we're in the 60s and also in the 70s across the north-central plains. yesterday temperatures were in the 20s right around the minneapolis area, but that warmer air is pushing in. almost at 50 degrees out there today. going to be very nice out there, so hopefully you have a chance to get outside. back to you, morgan

new york city for the daytime high. today it's a little cooler. we have an alberta clipper system out of canada. because of that we may see a little bit of snow across upstate new york, but for the most part very quiet across the east coast. we had gulf showers earlier on in the day across portions of eastern texas. again, the bulk of the activity here across the west coast. we have a storm bringing in a ton of moisture off the pacific ocean, and today the bulk of the activity is going to be along the oregon coastline down into northern portions of california where they definitely need the rain. i think today we'll see 1 to 4 inches of rain. the rain really subsiding across seattle. the showers have really tapered off, but down in oregon along the coast we see heavier rain later on this evening. now, in seattle as we track back to work on tuesday into wednesday, the sun will come out. it's going to be a beautiful couple of days. really starting to feel like spring. by wednesday we're up to a high of 60 with overnight lows in the 40s. i felt bad for the north-central plains yesterday because most of the country experiencing this brief warm-up, but i think we

we also have some snow flurries up across northern new england and upstate new york. the main event is going to unfold tuesday, wednesday. we're going to watch a storm dive out of the midwest across the great lakes. also got energy across the southeast and both of these storms are going to kind of merge together and bring us, yes, another nor'easter. this one could be very powerful. so the exact location still yet to be determined. we don't exactly have snow totals for you. stay tuned. but one thing is for sure, we're going to see rain and snow along the coast. very windy tuesday and wednesday. and then potentially heavier impacts depending on where the track goes. but right now we think it's going to be a new england events. we could see several inches, perhaps a foot of snow. and winds up to past 50, 60 miles per hour. here is one of our forecast models. this is the euro. it might be a little aggressive. giving new york city several inches of snow. then up toward eastern massachusetts, connecticut, that's where we could see the higher snow total, but the gsf, which
