shortly after 4:00 p.m., a group of 10 undocumented activists rode into uptown charlotte aboard the noapers, no fear us. the activists have been riding aboard the bus protesting the obama administration's immigration policies. the bus left arizona six weeks ago. the activists took part in tuesday's protest knowing they could face deportation if arrested. we call it uptown charlotte, not downtown. host: why is that?uest: that is a good question, and i got different answers when i asked that. people said they thought it sounded better to be going uptown verses downtown. i think the upside -- of town sounds better than the downtown. i do not know that has any basis in fact at all. host: has there been any surprises for you? have you been surprised by any of the events going on in charlotte or anything? guest: i guess i am not terribly surprised by this, but i have really been struck by the differences in these conventions between the convention here in charlotte and tampa. in down in tampa, it seemed to me like a party that what -- that was really trying to come together. when i would talk to delegates from north carolina, i asked them a general question of what they think of mitt romney. the response was, i think once american gets to know mitt romney, there will like him. once american gets to know paul ryan, they like him. i reminded them that the election was just two months away, but they just

charlotte? >> they grew up in the city and the leaders of the bank's work on building the community. the ceo of bank of america is known for building the uptown area and trying to improve the arts scene. out of their own self-interest, they wanted to recruit people to move here. first union, same type of thing. when one bank would build a skyscraper, the other bank would build a bigger skyscraper and they would go back and forth. they would help build arenas. it has a lasting effect on the city. the democratic national convention is coming here. the leader of duke energy -- we had an energy company instead of a banker doing a big a civic event. we had been covering the banking industry since 2001, which was right when first union and wachovia were emerging, which is a big deal for these north carolina banks. the financial crisis was unfolding in 2008, 2009, and we are still paying close attention to bank of america. last week, warren buffett decided to invest in the bank, so that was a boost of confidence, but it is sort of an expensive investment and there are questions of whether they have the capital they need to get through all of their l
