at a statement also posted on the twitter feed of the us capitol police. says we are devastated to share the sad news that one of our four officers involved in this afternoons incident passed away. the us ep, capitol police is working to notify the officers next of kin before it releases additional information. just after 1pm a man and a blue sedan rammed his vehicle into the north barricade at the us capitol striking two officers. the department immediately walked down the capital campus. which we understand has the capitol building and up to four other buildings around it. the man exited the vehicle with a knife and ran towards our officers. at least one officer drew their weapon and shot the suspect. one of was transported by a cruiser to the hospital. the second capitol police officer was transported by dc fire and ems. we understand that there was a helicopter involved in that transfer. the suspect was also transported by the dc fire and ems to the hospital where he succumbed to the hospital where he succumbed to his injuries around 1:30pm local time.
