gulf goast. ryan hughes joins us from the live desk. and ryan nate sure did pack a punch. nate barreled through the gulf coast as a category one hurricane and knocked out power for more than 100-thousand people across the region and caused some pretty serious flooding. take a look at this. a parking garage in mississippi turned into a body of water. cars in over five feet of sea water - being tossed around nate also spawned tornadoes. one destroyed several homes and uprooted trees in south carolina. despite the damage - officials in the gulf coast say they were prepared for this storm after learning a tough lesson from hurricane katrina. across the south, crews now busy clearing roads and fixing power lines. no deaths or injuries were reported from hurricane nate it's now been one week since a gunman opened fire on a crowd of 22-thousand attending a jason aldean concert in las vegas - killing 58 and injuring more than 500. vegas strip went dark to honor the victims of the shooting. signs went dark at 10:05 for 11 minutes marking the time gun shots first rang out..and the duration of the shooting. many also ga

cnn's ryan young is along the gulf coast in mobile. walk us through some of the preparations we're seeing there. >> reporter: absolutely. look, christi and victor, the big conversation here is about all of the storms that have been hitting this general area. of course, the united states over the last year. you have people having the conversation openly about what they should do to get ready for the storm. the mayor here says they clean all the storm drains to make sure water can flow through the area. they're expecting a storm surge of 5 to 9 feet. think about this, they're as going to shut down the airport around 4:00 this afternoon. and this port behind me, this beautiful port is going to be shut down at 8:00. there's a carnival cruise line known as "fantasy" that they left out in the ocean because they want to make sure it doesn't come in during the storm. on the dirty side of the storm, they want to make sure that water doesn't flood this area. the bigger conversation is the heavy winds and possibilities of tornado. we've been told by the

>> it's the gulf coast and it's us. it could be an impact as early as next week. this is not a storm that we'll be watching for weeks like we did irma and maria. this is going to hit the florida coastline most likely on sunday. that's only four or five days away. in the southern caribbean, this is what we'll watch here. here's the storm just off the coast of costa rica around portions of nicuaragwa. it's expected to become a tropical storm most likely at the 5:00 advisory and probably winds of 40 miles per hour at here's the winds and what we're looking at with the storm, it's making its way into the gulf just over the next couple of days, it's moving northwest at 7 and will become a tropical storm and then off the coast of mexico. 70-mile-per-hour winds and then into the open waters of the gulf of mexico. it could strengthen here. how strong is it? the official forecast has it at 80 miles per hour in the florida panhandle. watch where this coast. up the southeast and into our area monday night and into tuesday. some of the computer models are coming in strong and

speak to kristen dahlgren who joins us now from mobile, alabama, as the hurricane there, not just going to impact one city or one state, but in fact, the entire gulf coast. talk to us about the preparations there that are under way. >> reporter: hi there, well, a lot of sandbagging earlier today and that's a good thing, because i want to show you this. we are already seeing that storm surge. this is mobile bay. it's already coming over its banks here. take a look at this. this is just after the initial outer bands. right now, you can see it's clear, and this water still here, four, five, six inches deep in places. it's expected to get much, much higher. the national weather service is warning people, this is going to be a life-threatening storm surge. they're talking 6 to 9 feet, maybe even higher in some of these low-lying areas. so that could be very dangerous. and then it is possibly hitting at high tide. high tide here in mobile bay at 1:46 a.m. so that's sort of a worst case scenario. this storm coming in as the high hi tide is coming in as well. we could see some very, very high water marks, and that means we could see a lot of damage. this is pot
