nick valencia is south of new orleans. what are you seeing?> reporter: the damage is widespread and extensive. we saw some heavy equipment coming in through here to remove the debris, which is all across this parish here. here in jefferson parish, one woman died as a result of this tornado that ripped through the community. you can see the strength of this storm, what it did to this family's home, ripping off the walls and ceilings, and from what residents tell me here, the tornado happened in a matter of seconds, about 20 to 30 seconds. the man that lives in this home here, trent, he tells me he rode out the tornado inside his closet with his dog. he said he only had a matter of seconds to take cover. he thought it was all going to be over for him. a man who survived covid and hospitalized by pneumonia now counts himself a tornado survivor. >> so, we got in here and all of a sudden about a minute or so after that, just a strong gust of wind come through the front door, filling the house, the tornado came through the front, and me and him lock

nick valencia is at the airport. southwest has issued a couple apologies.tomers to get reimbursed. how is this going? >> reporter: this is a major concern from passengers we've spoken to, and in some cases they have been having to cough up money the last eight days while dealing with this all during the holiday, and in some cases it's money they don't have. earlier this week i spoke to a woman who said she had been sleeping in the atlanta airport for the last two days because she was broke, she said. she didn't have money to buy a new ticket to get her back to columbus, ohio, and she told us that she wasn't getting a refund from southwest, but today we're hearing that southwest is laying out new options online for passengers like that to put in for full reimbursement for their expenses, reimbursement for canceled flights as well as putting in missing baggage info. that has been a huge issue throughout this ordeal. listen to what the chief commercial officer for southwest airlines said in a twitter video he posted on wednesday night. >> you can submit a full
