and then as vaughn was saying, it's now kind of complete. we've been tracking it. the ten republicans who voted to impeach donald trump following the events of january 6th. here's their fate in 2022. four chose not to run. they retired. four like liz cheney lost primaries. i think it's notable, the two that got through primary season, that's dan newhouse in washington state, different types of primaries here. these were top two primaries. multiple, you know, candidates, democrat and republican, all together on one ballot. trump stayed out of this race. those different top two primaries are the only ones where republicans were able to survive the more traditional primaries, like we saw yesterday. not a single republican was able to survive. >> so, eugene, then, going back to cheney and dave wasserman with the cook political report, tweeting out lan. the idea that cheney could be a serious factor in a 2024 gop primary or would siphon votes from trump as an independent remains as preposterous as the idea this primary would be competitive. and you note in this morning'

ken dilanian, susan craig, nbc's vaughn hilliard is at mar-a-lago and paul butler, former prosecutor and professor at georgetown school of law, also an msnbc legal analyst. ken, what do we know about the former president's decision to plead the fifth more than 400 times? >> we're told trump only answered one question in that deposition, his name. and then he read a statement calling the inquiry the greatest witch hunt in our country and accused letitia james on a campaign of policy of destroying me. the assistant attorney general asked about the valuation of various properties and golf club and about trump signing various documents and loans. even about the size of his apartment, which james believes was misrepresented in certain loan documents. we're told the mood in the room was polite, not tense. the attorneys were professional. the a.g. was there for about half the time and the dynamic between trump and james was professional and cordial. as you said, he took the fifth on every question asked. what that says, jose, obviously he just thought it was too dangerous for him to answer

vaughn, what are you watching for?a race that caps off essentially all these other primaries. talking about trump-backed candidates who donald trump has perceived to be opposition forces within the republican party. this is it. he's called it the most important race of 2022. it's why gop allies of donald trump have put so much attention, including the likes of kevin mccarthy who held a fund-raiser for harriet hague man who is the trump-backed challenger to liz cheney. frankly, a state like wyoming, i think this is a test. not only is liz cheney far from being a political newcomer, her dad first elected to this congressional seat 44 years ago, but also, this is a completely 4-1 talking republicans to democrats here in this state. while liz cheney is trying to galvanize the democrats and change party registration to come vote for her, ultimately what this race will tell us is how aligned republican voters here in wyoming are with the donald trump new era of the republican party compared to what the state helped shepherd
