. >> commissioner veronese: okay. and so we're asking ourselves, we're reflecting on our past policies and saying, you know, is ten days appropriate, do we have the right equipment these days, so the types of fires that we're quiting, are we finding that we're having the right type of equipment and equipment support on the equipment side? >> i would say on the part of ten days deployment, we're actually on the lower side that most departments do. most departments do 21 days. we do ten days because that's the minimum requirement of o.e.s., on or about ten days. depends on how the incident's going. we feel that's safe for our firefighter's exposure. obviously, it's not a good exposure, because you're always in smoke, and sleeping in smoke and stuff, but it's better than wh be -- commissioner veronese, we will be discussing housing as it relates to the fire department. so it should be a -- a very, you know, thoughtful and hopefully creative discussion. >> commissioner veronese: productive. >> commissioner covington: yes,

commissioner veronese. >> commissioner veronese: just follow up on the -- on the presentation that you gave earlier and the comments to the chief. i think it would be really important to hear from not just the building department, but also from the stakeholders because one of the greatest frustrations that the stakeholders and the public have when they go to apply for these permits -- and it's happened to me before in a different county, and it's extremely frustrating, is that when you have the agencies, they get together, they try to find solutions, they find solutions that are self-defeating to the entire proposal of trying to get more housing. let me just give you an example. let's say flor example, you require two exists, you're going to give an exception to the two exists -- exits, but that exception requires the builder to put in a sprinkler system that costs $.5 million that compromises the entire project. i'm not saying you should sacrifice safety, but i'm saying if there's 60 applicants right now, let them all into a room and let them know what you're going to do and have them
