let's go to storm team 4 meteorologist veronica johnson in the storm center with your first foreca this tuesday. vj? guys, this is the kind of cold you really don want to be out outside in for long. you walk to your car, want to move as fast as you can. look how we started the day today. this only tells part of the story. temper in the 20s throughout the area, leesburg, get e this morning. reagan national airport started at 28. the record, 21. and tonight the readings, those temps even lower. good thing, though, the winds will start to ease off. last night our winds picked up right near 40 miles per hour. look at the winds today. they have been just over 30 but now wind dropping in locations like d.c. and leesburg over 30 now. again, falling. your wind chills currently in the teens to low 30s across the area. so, today those wind chills have been in the 20s by morning. we're back in the teens. but will we have a chance to come out of it by tomorrow afternoon? >>> a lawyer accused of stabbing two people will stay in jail. >> andrew small and his wife alicia arguing for bail today. his la

veroni veronica, everyone wants to know, is it going to stick around? how bad are the roads going to be? >> it is going to stick around. we dropped to 32 degrees. most neighborhoods by 7:00. once we hit 32, we'll stay around that mark for about 10 to 12 hours as we head into the morning hours. so even if you didn't get a lot of snow and you do have wet roads, that means slick icy conditions on area roads by late tonight and through the morning. here's a look at the current radar. woodbridge right now on the line. it's that area right along i-95 that has been the dividing line between the rain and snow for much of today. speaking of west far to the west, well that's the back edge of all this due to end in about four hours. so we're talking about between 7:00 and 9:00 this will start pulling out of here and ending. what is expected later tonight? icy patches through the morning. and that means use caution. right now out on the weather deck, meteorologist doug cameron with a look at area wide temperatures for the overnight period. >> unprepared because we

kpix 5's veronica de la cruz joins us live in the newsroom.ow, veronica, a lot is hinging on this race. >> reporter: that's right, liz. the registrar of voters office is expected to come out with updated numbers any minute now. at last check liccardo leads dave cortese by 2%. that's roughly 2500 votes. and there are thousands of ballots still left to be counted. depending on who is elect san jose could be facing a major problem in the police department. last month the police officers association predicted as many as 200 officers would quit if liccardo was elected. today dave cortese met with officers and his message, hold on. >> whether i'm county supervisor or mayor i'm going to be standing with you and with this coalition to get equity so you don't lose any more police officers. we just want people to hang in there long enough for it to happen. >> a lot of people are thinking about leaving including me. >> reporter: sam liccardo has supported current mayor chuck reed's pension reform plan which the city says is saving $25 million a year but

. >> i'm veronica de la cruz. 5's len ramirez learning new details on the missing manager and the internal investigation under way. len? >> reporter: well, veronica, at this point we need to make it very clear that there is no criminal investigation of mr. joseph lei here at the registrar of voters office but we have learned that the sheriff's office was alerted to a potential situation this week. at this point the sheriff's department is standing back but monitoring what is still a county personnel matter. when the registrar of voters head of i.t. abruptly quit on election morning he failed to turn in his county property including a badge, a cell phone and a computer hard drive. the sheriff's office says the registrar of voters alerted law enforcement on monday and while it's not a criminal probe it's being investigated by county counsel labor relations and the registrar of voters. neighbors haven't seen him for days. he has reportedly been in telephone contact with the registrar's office but hasn't made himself

. >> i'm veronica de la cruz.jose mayor still hasn't been called and now it is the vote counting process being called into question. tonight our len ramirez is just learning, now the secretary of state's office is getting involved. len? >> reporter: that's right, veronica. we have just learned that the registrar of voters here in santa clara county has sent a letter to the secretary of state's office asking for an official review of all their processes and election results. now, we're right in the middle of vote counting still including vote counting in a very close mayoral election with only a couple of thousand votes separating two candidates. the reason this is happening is because some of the results are called into question over the sudden and unexpected departure of the chief technology officer of the registrar of voters. top county officials say it was a surprise but not a shock to the system when the registrar of voters head of i.t. joe lei suddenly quit on election day. >> luckily, we have a system of che
