storm 4 meteorologist veronica johnson joins us now with the latest. >> hey there, jim and pat. yeah, it's been a wild ride over the last 48 hours. that's for sure. we've seen a lot of cold, arctic air rush into the area. that cold air being really pushed into here by some very strong winds. take a look at the current wind gusts now anywhere from 22 to 31-mile-per-hour gusts being reported down at packs river. i've seen that just over the last hour, gusting up to 41 miles per hour. same thing was true for leonard town this morning. very strong winds. the winds are going to start to settle over the next couple hours. i'm still looking for a breezy night though. you can see what it's done to the temperature. 41 degrees currently but the wind chill, 32 degrees. what it actually feels like out there. so that wild ride going from 60 some yesterday to feeling like we're in the 20s today. here's a look at some of the other wind chills throughout the area. frederick, maryland, 25 degrees that feel like factor to 32 in

. >> veronica johnson has the latest on this spring-like day in january. >> watch out for spring-like temperatures. that doesn't mean move to the side so you miss them from falling. this has been another freaky spring-like day in winter for us with mild temperatures and even some thunderstorms included. we started naught the 60s this morning. a lot of folks have been saying what in the world is going on? we're in the 50s with more big changes coming. if you missed the rain and thunder here it is. 4:00 a.m., just rain through the area. leesburg, gaithersburg, and around fairfax. meanwhile we had that line of thunder move on through the area and so it hit areas just up around i-70 and 270. by the time we got to 5:30 and 6:30 in the morning. frederick, 270, leesburg, warranton. then another line came into areas just west of i-95 around fairfax and down through stafford county approaching fredericksburg by 8:00 a.m. so a soggy morning rush for us. then we've got more storms that pulled on out of calvert and st. mary's county. we're dry right now. we have a lot of wind and still some cloud

. >> storm 4 meteorologist veronica johnson is monitoring. what are we expecting later tonight? >> thanks, guys. the start time on this very important because a lot of folks have plans tonight. the way it looks right now is we take a look at storm 4 doppler with moisture sitting down to the south. we've got moisture off to the north and west. of course off to the north and west it's white and cold enough for some snow there. a lot of the moisture with this storm system that we're going to have starting tonight and running through a good part of saturday is going to be coming up from the south. you can see it there around raleigh, charlotte, atlanta, georgia. and it is mild down there. there will be some milder air coming into the system. but not at first. at first it's the cold air that will be winning out. right now the way it looks is after about 10:00, 11:00 p.m. tonight we'll start to see some snow fall around the area. probably in our western suburbs first. areas off to areas like rap hannic and culpepper county but by morning everything from snow to sleet and freezing rain

veronica johnson joins us from storm center 4 with the latest. that 29, that's hard to even look at. >> i know. an ominous looking sky. this is indeed the coldest air of the season that we've gotten and cold enough for sure to produce some snow across the area. we've seen it ever since early this morning. there were a few isolated accidents around i-83 in maryland as well as i-70 and two 70 in what you're seeing. it is more snow that's coming through the area. all this, snow streamers, oriented northwest to southeast and originating from the great lakes. just off lake erie. gaithersburg seeing more snow. along i-270 and we've got more areas of snow to the south. leonard town, fredericksburg and right southwest of warrenton. hanging on for about another three, maybe four hours. i wanted to open it up and show you the lake effect snows. keep your eye on that one little area coming off lake erie. because you can track it all the way down as it came into our area. starting up there about 1:00 a.m. by 10:30, north of ellicott city. this is the image i

storm 4 meteorologist veronica johnson joins us now with your first forecast. v.j.? >> this was definitely a winter day for us, jim and pat, with temperatures hovering right around 40 degrees. we're at 39 now. reagan national airport. as you said, the sun was out earlier. now we're already seeing the clouds advancing on us from west to east those clouds and temperatures will start coming down. 37 in aspen hill. only in ashton, 38 you folks in mclean and vienna. big afternoon to you folks in prince george's county, riverdale, and glendale coming in at 38 degrees. it's 43 degrees currently just down to the south in quantico, virginia. let's take a look at that cloud cover. there it is making its way from western maryland right through d.c. now almost covering most of southern maryland. from those clouds we are going to see a few flurries late tonight. pittsburgh already getting the snow. cleveland, ohio, too. this will be one fast moving system for us. right now it looks as though the possibility of flurries will be in that window between about 9:00 p.m. and 2:00 a.m.

let's get right to storm 4 meteorologist veronica johnson who is tracking the changes., v.j. >> hey, pat and doreen. the mix is going to bring us everything from snow to sleet to freezing rain and then eventually rain as the system tapers tomorrow. but for the late part of the night here, latter part of the night we are going to be seeing flurries. in fact i think in the next couple hours some of that moisture will start reaching the ground. that's the white you see just north of washington down to the south more moisture. that's going to be funneling into the system allowing our temperature to rise a bit. we'll see a change over then from snow, a little sleet mixing in and

storm 4 meteorologist veronica johnson joins us from the storm center. it's kind of exciting. >> kind of. right? our last snow around here back in october. but tom and chuck were both talking about snow from the weekend through this morning. of course we didn't think this system would have as much vigor or that it would continue to snow at the rate that it has. nonetheless, though, we've got the area covered with a little bit of white especially areas south of d.c. certainly cold enough with a temperature of 34 degrees. the roads, this is a live camera on 495 at the exit of van dorn street. road temperatures just checked on those and they're running between 37 and 43 degrees. i really think that we're going to be just fine as we get through this event. probably not over until about 7:00 p.m. on the back end around 7:00 temperatures will start to lower just a little bit more. those road surface temperatures. secondary roads may start to get a little slick. visibility an issue out there. a half mile to two miles now in areas i-66 coming down a little harde
