veronica johnson has spoke to v-dot today about its expectations for road conditions tomorrow morning. the roads after the storm stopped a couple of hours ago, they're still pretty bad. >> reporter: they are still pretty bad. that's the thing. this is the intersection of spelt run and lee highway. and in fact the sidewalks are faring a lot better than the actual road. still covered with a lot of slush around here as we made our way over to this area. this is what most of the roads actually look like. in fact i stood out here just a couple of minutes ago. yes, they're slushy. i've got some infrared thermometer where i've been taking a temperature reading. watching the road surface temperature continue to drop. right now actually at around 35 36 degrees. but again, it will continue to drop as we head up the road toward the north there for the 66 on ramp. you can see cars making their way through, yes, no issues they're going at a fairly decent speed, too. but i think the real problem as we head southbound down lee highway tomorrow morning will be the inclines the ramps, the hills, becau

let's get to storm team 4 meteorologist veronica johnson in the weather center. how cold v.j.? >> last night we saw temperatures throughout the area drop to the single digits and teens. and here we go again tonight. so anything snowwise that wasn't cleaned up today, and we did have melting from the stronger march sunshine, yes, that's only going to refreeze. talk about the snow from yesterday, 4.8 inches record for national for baltimore and dulles too, 6.2 baltimore marshall 9.5 inches of snow there in dulles. but look at this. the snow throughout the area. that's the dark xwlublue covering the ground with the higher amounts to the west. itted to show you this map because more than 50% of the nation is covered in snow today. that is remarkable. pattern change for us and it all has to do with the big thaw. springlike temperatures coming our way and it will be sooner than you think. might even be able to do a wardrobe change. but look at 11:00 p.m. 23. we'll talk more about that cold coming our way tonight in a few. >>> we just learned what's been causing a bit of a traffic tie-
