delays in vet care is not for the lack of money. the delays in vet care is not for the lack of money. it's for the lack of accountability management. case in point. more than 20 veterans have died or dying due to late diagnosis treatment of cancer due bryant medical center in columbia, south carolina. documents see that only a third of that $1 million appropriated by congress to fix the problem was used for its intended purpose at that v.a. facility. only a third of the money that we appropriated to fix this problem was actually used for it. to pay for care for veterans on waiting lists. at the same time the documents show the waiting list at dorn kept growing to 3,800 patients in december of 2011. mr. president, i'll be back to speak on the floor and offer amendments. i have pages and pages of examples of veterans who served this country honorably, proudly and sacrificed to a great extent who are getting substandard care in the system that we are offering them today. before we expand that system, what is needed is a ru rigorous ove

they run hundreds of vet centers. the v.a. is the largest integrated health care system in the united states of america. it employs hundreds of thousands of workers, doctors, nurses, technicians, you name it. no one, obviously, has ever suggested that v.a. health care is perfect or that there aren't problems within the system. but i will tell you this. i talk to veterans in vermont and i talk to veterans all over the country, and by and large there is very, very strong support for v.a. health care. because these veterans understand that when they walk into a v.a. facility, the people there are there to treat them, they understand their problems, and many of the workers there themselves are veterans. and i think if you talk to the veterans' community, they will tell you not that the v.a. doesn't have its set of problems, it does, and not that we shouldn't focus vigorously on improving the care at v.a., but they will tell you that, by and large, the care they're getting is good care. and the point that i want to make is that bef
