. >> vianey arana kicks off team coverage with the unpredictable conditions awaiting firefighters. another red flag warning in effect later today. >> that's right. this is a new red flag warning. we had one that expired yesterday. it became a red flag watch, now a red flag warning. the reason is the winds are expected to kick up again and bring the threat of the wildfires quickly spreading southward, expecting the dry, northerly wind. the tubbs fire, 34,000 acres. the adobe fire, over 7,000 acres, the atlas fire growing at over 40,000 acres. as of now, the threat of this spreading is going to spark up that concern, which is why the warning is in place for 5:00 p.m. tonight through 11:00 p.m. tomorrow. we are expecting the gustiest conditions, unfortunately, to be in the north bay mountains and east bay hills. with the relative low humidity, this is a concern. we are talking about all those evacuations with all those places south of all those wildfires currently burning. i'll have an update on what to expect in terms of the wind coming up in a bit. >> thank you. 4:32 now. new this m

vianey arana is standing by. look at the microclimate forecast. it's going to be warm, but cooler than yesterday? >> yes, exactly. we are going to see spots in the 80s, but a few degrees cooler than yesterday. yeah, it's going to be an overall pleasant day. we have been seeing a chillier start all week long. that's the only thing making it feel like fall. peninsula, 51. tri-valley, waking up to 51 degrees. san francisco, 54 degrees. the temperature trend does show plenty of sunshine and temperatures jumping into the 70s at least by the noon hour for san jose and eventually to the 80s for san jose as well. lower 80s today, not necessarily mid-80s like yesterday. san francisco right now, 53 degrees, jumping to the 70s by 1:00. today's biggest event is the breezy conditions picking up throughout the afternoon. that is why there is a red flag warning in place. low humidity paired with dry northeasterly winds. we'll go into depth with what to expect in 15 minutes. >> thank you so much. >>> the hurricane known as nate battered the gulf coast overnight,

vianey arana, it's not easy for them. >> not for the overnight hours. last night, calm winds, we had the humidity that recovered. right now, a decent humidity in napa, 61%. we are going to see those dry, northerly winds come into play tonight. that's going to dry out that air mass, bringing that relatively low, dangerous humidity, again. if you notice, by 11:00 a.m., look at the humidity. we went from 60 plus percent to 20%. now, as we head into the overnight hours, we are talking possibly less than 15 in the north bay. that is why a red flag warning will be in place from 5:00 p.m. tonight to 11:00 tomorrow. the gusts will be in the north bay and east bay hills, a big area of concern as people are sleeping, yet again, at 1:00, 2:00 a.m. we'll keep a close eye on that. let's get a traffic check with mike. mike, how are the roads? >> we are going to the garbage truck fire. the rig and truck had to be cleared. this was inside eastbound highway 24, the caldecott tunnel. that has just cleared. they pulled this out of the tunnel. the sweepers have gone throug

i'm bigad shaban along with vianey arana.s in san francisco, but in the bay area, some warmer temperatures on the way. >> yeah. so, even though right now it is on the cooler side, if you're waking up and you're heading out, well, bring a sweater because it's in the 40s in some spots. along the coast, you're going to feel that chill but right now in the south bay, a nice 53 degrees, 57 degrees for the peninsula, tri-valley, and a chilly 50 degrees and we are seeing some clear skies, nice clear skies, north bay 42, east bay 50, but don't be surprised if you start seeing a couple of high clouds in the forecast. but have no fear, those should clear out quite nicely and make for an overall sunny saturday across the bay area. by about 12:00, we will climb into those mid 70s and we are expected to hit 80s in san jose and most inland spots, but we do have a couple of factors that will come into play for today and into sunday. we do have a beach hazard in place for the coastlines if you have plans to head to the beach. you may want to

let's begin with forecaster, vianey arana. round moving in as firefighters try to get this under control. >> yeah, unfortunately, they are coming from the north/northeast. that put as threat to the people south of those fires. so, as the temperatures are favorable at this hour, temperatures remain fairly cool and the winds are calm, i want to take you through a quick look. if you look at the bar that says peak wind gusts, you can see the timing on that. friday at 10:30. tonight at 10:30, the winds pick up in napa at 18 miles per hour, fairfield, 25. the biggest threat saturday morning, about 2:00 a.m. and 2:30 a.m., we stee gusts picking up at 30 plus miles per hour in napa, 32 in fairfield and 25 in santa rosa. if you are south, you can see the fire north of those hills, you need to remain on high alert. i'll break it down in a bit. back to you. >>> 6:31. breaking overnight, new evacuati evacuation advisories in napa county. >> the famous wineries not far from the french laundry. the area we are talking about here on your scr

vianey arana has been following this and you told us that these winds were going to pick up. there's going to be a drop at some point in the day but not right now. >> there is. compared to where we were about 2:30 or 3:00 a.m., you heard a couple reporters say the winds seem to be dying down. it just means there's a slight shift in fact wind. what tends to happen is we see a decrease in those gusts right now at napa earlier, they were at about 25, 26. right now they're at 15. so even that it might seem like the winds have died down a bit for now, they haven't peaked so let's look at that timeline because the threat of the winds will continue and you mix that up with the relative humidity and north bay humidity, 40% or higher helps. we are officially dropped out from under that 40% range and right now it is about 7:15 a.m. sunrise is 7:17 a.m. so we're just two minutes away from official sunrise and hopefully they can get that aircraft up and running and hereally help i putting out these fires. in the 80s by about 2:00 which is when we're expecting to see the change in that hu

i'm vicky nguyen alongside vianey arana looking at the microclimate forecast. it's been fabulous to be outside. we are wrapping up summer, summer-like temperatures. >> yeah, inland areas, slightly warmer temperatures than the coastline. at least we have a nice mix between 60s and 80s. right now, if you are waking up in the south bay, 66 degrees. partly clear skies. that's only because we have lingering high clouds. the peninsula is nice and clear at 50 degrees. tri-valley, 52. i have seen amazing photos of a cloudless san francisco, which has been nice. a chilly 51 in the north bay. the temperature trend is going to be interesting. we had a hard start to the workweek. we ended on a cooler start and warmed up in the hills. we are expecting that to kick up winds, which is why there is a red flag warning. san francisco should be in the clear of that, although, in areas like san jose and the east bay and north bay, expect that relative humidity to play into those winds and gusts tonight. the 80 temperatures will be a factor in the red flag warning. i'll break down

we want to go to vianey arana, who has been tracking this all morning. you were telling us about this and here it is now. >> it is and unfortunately not much relief in sight for several hours. currently, at this hour, it's about 5:46 a.m. since 5:30, we've seen consistent winds in napa at about 29 miles per hour and sno sonoma right in between also experiencing gusts between 20 and 25 miles per hour. near the fairfield area, we've seen gusts. what's the difference between a sustained wind and a gust? the sustained wind means it's constant, it's constantly blowing. gust is a moment when a gust comes through and blows things out of the area which is what really brings the concern for those flying embers and i want to take you through that future cast timeline. it's going to stick around for the next couple hours so let's talk about those wind gusts. mt. diablo seeing the strongest of the gusts at about 51 miles per hour. the napa, sonoma area right now where they're evacuating all those folks in sonoma, they're still experiencing some gusty conditions and

that's where vianey arana joins us with a closer look at the wind forecast and when that smoke may start to clear out of here. >> reporter: we've been keeping a close eye on this since the fire first broke out last weekend and unfortunately those winds play a very large role when it comes to that smoke and just seeing it and smelling it and we've actually got some video if we can pop that up of what it looked like yesterday. this is daylight video of that thick smog, hazy skies, it even almost looked like a bit of an orange gloom over some areas. even as far down as the south bay along the peninsula people were really reporting a sense of smells of smoke i saw all over twitter and facebook. even if you don't live near those wildfire areas. let's talk about the winds and take a look at that timeline. thursday at about 7:00 a.m. we can expect to see the winds picking up today at about 22 miles per hour coming out of the napa area and that's going to raise a big red flag, a big moment of concern as the firefighters really continue to fight this fire, but also as the winds come in from the n
