vianey arana joins us.o much to cover. >> as you say, a spare-the-air alert is in place for obvious reasons. you can see the view over san francisco. typically it is a shot covered in fog or clear sky. right now in san francisco it is about 58 degrees. current temperatures throughout in the 60s and 50s, but heading to the afternoon it will be another day in the 90s. i want to show you satellite radar to give you sort of an idea of why we have a fire weather watch that will take effect on sunday. you can see a low pressure system just to our south that is churning. then the interaction with a high pressure system to the east is going to drive some moisture to the bay area. the interaction of those two and the instability in the atmosphere is going to bring another chance of seeing dry lightning in the bay area with the potential for that heading into tomorrow, which is why the national weather service has issued a fire weather watch that will be in place sunday through tuesday because of a chance for fast-mo

vianey, good morning to you. >> good morning. yeah, and with all of these fires actively burning around us, the threat of those lightning strikes starting another fire is really the biggest concern here. right now, though, it's pretty calm overall on radar. 64 degrees in dublin. you can see the smoke out there. as kira said, the spare the air alert is in place. fog throughout monterey and in through san francisco, limited visibility, down to a quarter mile in santa cruz. satellite radar shows it's calm right now over the bay area. but just to our south is that surge of moisture that's going to push its way up as we head in towards the afternoon. that's what the biggest threat is going to be, moving in. you can see it here, i'm zooming this down where you can sort of see that low pressure system pushing northward. this is going to bring the chance of seeing fast-paced moving thunderstorms and also dry lightning, which is why that red flag warning was issued heading in towards monday. all the way now until monday ch thunderstorms,

pretty unbelievable video there. >>> vianey arana joining us now. you're more in tune with this kind of stuff than we are, but that looks very unusual to me. >> yeah. you know, i was actually reading the threads on twitter from this video that, you know, has been circulating everywhere. you know, judging by the meteorologists' response, the scientists' response. they are saying they believe it is the first ever issued, the tornado warning, by the national weather service specifically for a wildfire-generated, pyroconvective event. so this is definitely something that is unique. now, it isn't necessarily rare. i think what made it so unique was the fact that it was observed. it was caught on video, and also there was a warning for it. we've seen something similar in thefire, but that more sort of -- it came out of nowhere, and it caught us by surprise. so that's sort of what makes this so rare. as far as, you know, the temperatures here locally, though, we're going to continue to monitor our thunderstorm activity because that will bring the potential

vianey arana joins us with your microclimate forecast. will that fog stay around or will we have a good weekend for folks to enjoy? >> you know, we'll probably keep a lot of that fog especially around the golden gate bridge. that's where we see the most cloud cover right now. for the first half, we'll keep it around and then we'll get partial clearing for the coast and it will get warm in san francisco today. upper 60s, low 70s, believe it or not. walnut creek 61 degrees. in through san francisco you can see right now it's at about 56 degrees. temperatures will be above normal. we have high pressure that will keep us warm in through inland areas as well. let's take a look at the fog further inland. we've got a couple spots near half moon bay. santa cruz waking up to that fog. let's quickly check out the temperature trend because this is a sneak of what we're tracking for this afternoon. notice the temperatures. normal high around 82, 85. today we'll be in the upper 80s for the south bay and interior valleys. definitely expect to feel a li
