abc 7 news reporter vic lee joins us at the hall of justice with the story. vic? >> reporter: the aunt was arraigned today here at the hall on a child endangerment charge. she was shaken as she faced the judge in court. the child's parents did not attend. many family members did and they all had strong opinions about the case. >> she starts everything. she's part of everybody. >> reporter: this air dresser, is the 2-year-old's paternal great grandmother. she is grateful for all the support the family has received t. fatal accident happened friday night when the aunt was at mission between 4th and 5th street with a child and her twin brother. she was walking against a red light. she abruptly left the child in the middle of the crosswalk. >> refused to walk with her. she returned to grab her brother. she was left in the middle of the street. >> reporter: the driver who had a green light hit the child and never stopped. it was a white, four-door sedan. she sobbed frequently on the arraignment of child endangerment. she pleaded not guilty. the judge set bail at $50,00

vic lee is live with the story. vic? >> reporter: the family says they have a lot of questions about the shooting and they don't believe the police department's account of what happened. also the medical examiner's report is not out yet. it's been five months. all those reasons why the family filed civil rights lawsuit to get answers. the march to the federal building started before 1:00 this afternoon, escorted by police, about 100 people walked from bernal heights to the district. it took three hours to reach the federal building. it was noisy, but peaceful. john burris filed a lawsuit earlier in the day. >> this is a person who was not armed. we don't believe the narrative of him pointing a taser at the police officer at the time was true. >> reporter: the day started with a small sunrise gathering at the site in bernal heights park where alex nieto was killed. they marked it with an aztec ceremony offering prayers and calling the spirits from the other world. maria is angry at what she calls a senseless police shooti

vic lee is working hard to find out. he's live tonight. vic? >> reporter: this is millbray avenue and you can see the red light cameras behind me. take a closer look at how busy this intersection is. we told you last week a huge spike in the number of violations here in may. there were more than 900 violations that month when the average number per month is less than half that amount. and we do have some answers tonight. it turn out that the culprit for the huge spike is the camera and the off ramp from southbound 101. the city says the camera here was struck and damaged by a truck in april and taken down for three weeks. it was then replaced by a new camera. >> when the new camera was installed, it was repositioned in a better placement and it has captured more violations. >> reporter: a city spokesperson angela lewis says that accounts for the spike the following month of may. >> the camera that's placed there is capturing both motorists who fail to make the stop for that right turn there. >> reporter: in other words drivers making rolling ri

vic lee, abc 7 news. >> police in pallo alto are looking for a dog walker who tried having a weird conversation with a woman before he groped her. it happened at 6:30 on california avenue and amherst street. a man was walking a pit bull when he met the woman and started talking to her. >> they walked for several blocks and then the suspect began to talk to her inappropriately. at this point, she became uncomfortable, and the suspect then groped her on the outer part of her clothing. >> she ran off and the woman pulled out her cell phone to call police. the suspect is a white man in his 20s, 6'4" and about 220 pounds. the dog he was walking was a gray pit bull with white spots on each paw. an investigation is under way after a mechanic was found crushed to death today in oakland. sky 7 hd shows us the scene at the charter pro bus company off 880 and coliseum way in oakland. police say his coworkers found the man dead just after noon, and he was trapped between the two buses. it's not known yet how long the man was there before his coworkers found him. >> tropical storm iselle continues to weaken

vic lee, abc 7 news. >> youth sports organizations in texas are taking new steps to guard against concussions there. >> four, nine, three. >> football leagues in plano now encourage players to get baseline concussion testing before they take the field. the tests check a child's memory, focus and balance. this is the same process required by many high schools including here in the bay area. athletic trainers say this is a no-brainer. >> to see the number of athletes that we're getting is amazing and it's across all sports. more and more we're starting to realize that the concussions some of these younger kids are getting are mild but they set the stage. >> the results the trainers get will be compared to the data the kids get after a brain injury. this will allow them to better understand the severity of any injury. america's largest football helmet manufacturer says it has come up with a new helmet that it hopes will reduce concussions. a flexible panel on the helmet will absorb more of the energy upon impact. players from 16 nfl teams as well as a dozen college teams will wear these helmets

vic lee, abc 7 news. >> robin williams was a big supporter of glide memorial.his is the actor attending one of the charity fundraisers in which he took the stage with bill cosby. robin williams bonded with the people at glide in a special way. he also talked openly to them about his own problems with drug addiction. >> when robin would see some of the people here at glide, he would immediately have empathy for him and they with him, because they understood there was something going on that was beyond any of us. and yet it was a compassion act. >> robin williams began donating his time and money to glide memorial church over 30 years ago. he even donated these autographed objects for a fundraising auction. he helped project open hand in a big way in the late 1990s. that organization was about to lose $750,000 in funding to retrofit its building, and that's when the comedian step in. >> coming down to the 11th hour, we were about $50,000 short. and robin and his wife stipulated and made that gift. so we were able to meet that goal. and as a result, what we're doi
