six to six and a half inches of snow in gerardstown, west virginia. a quick hitter and the storm is long gone. and the next storm is just starting to develop across the south and southwest texas. we'll talk more about that coming up at 6:15. temperature-wise this morning. 20s to low 30s out there, although culpeper is at 19 degrees. fredericksburg and pa tux sen river 33. same with national. some areas are wet and sloppy. some areas are frozen and foggy. you see culpeper, zero mile visibility reported there. orange, virginia has a quarter mile visibility. half mile at dulles. so that's sort of north gaithersburg almost to ladensburg. watch out north and west of town. very dense fog and definitely be a problem for the next few hours, probably until 8:00 or so. after that visibility should improve and we are expecting at least maybe some peeks of sunshine. forecast for today, clouds slow to break. mid-30s for 9:00, upper 40s at. we will be okay today. okay tomorrow. but by friday, problems return and could be some big problems as we head to the weekend.

now back to mostly all snow all across much of virginia and into the panhandle of west virginia and into much of maryland at this hour. now, this is the radar history over the last three hours. and it does show that increase in snow all across the region as colder air is moving back in. now, the closer view of the radar over the last hour showing this flow in the atmosphere coming in from the south and the southeast. it's out ahead of an area of low pressure that's going to be coming through our region as we get into the afternoon hours. as a result, we are going to see tin creasing snow rates as well as yes get into the mid to late morning hos. that's probably going to be the time when we'll see the biggest burst of the snow. right now as we look at the radar in a dferent color mode that gives us an intensity idea, where you see the green there in fairfax county and in southern and parts of central montgery county, it's coming down pretty hard. elsewhere, those dark blue areas are moderate snow. the light blue areas light snow. it's all filling in now, most of the area now all snow ligh

snow breaks out by friday midday into southwestern virginia. it will probably be around us as we get into the friday evening rush hour. that storm as it moves through georgia but off the north carolina coast friday night and saturday from every indication does become a major, major storm. everything coming together with terrific vertical velocities. the cold air over us. even you folks into southern maryland, while that boundary of sleet, snow will be hard to pin down until we get closer could be a really big snow producer once again into southern maryland, too. again, you will be much closer to that boundary. more melting going on tomorrow. temperatures into the low 40s with the sunshine. then the major storm comes in and everything is continuing to look like it will be something that is really going to have a major impact here. with the winds increasing, the heaviest snows midnight friday until mid morning saturday. then it still lingers on a little bit into late saturday. with the pattern we have, we could be looking at another smaller storm
