there was a confirmed tornado touchdown from la plata to waldorf. matt is live in waldorf.u're seeing some damage. >> we sure are. we're along the st. charles parkway here in waldorf, right outside an apartment complex. arrived on scene moments ago. i spoke with police. they could not confirm the damage i'm surrounded by was caused by a tornado. but they explained. an eyewitness told them they saw a funnel cloud. you'll begin to notice the extent of the damage with dozens of branches and tree limbs taken to the ground along with trees themselves. as you look beyond these trees, you'll see a fence and some parts of it have become completely snapped in half. beyond that, the apartment complex. there's a garnet curtain hanging outside a window. that window is broken and like it was caused by a tree branch. we haven't had a chance to talk to them but we did speak to another eyewitness. he said it sounded like a bomb was going off. they are okay. but he is out of power. and some 24,000 other homes in the area. now over to howard bernstein for your full weather report. >> we had

we are getting reports of downed trees and damage in charles county and the waldorf area. knight hasst josh been tracking these changes all day long. earlier, we heard about tornado warnings. josh: tornado warnings right around 3:00 for parts of charles county and waldorf, some of the areas under the gun. the good news is that they are moving quickly. 50 miles per hour. it did not give you a lot of time to prepare but at least, when the bad weather showed up, it did not stick around long. we do have a severe thunderstorm watch it completely expired across the area. it was forecast to go until 8:00 from the national weather service, but as the rain moved out, so did the thunderstorm. we are just about rate. hanging onto a few light showers in st. mary county. of for many places, a lot damage already done. it did bring down some trees and power lines and even quite a bit of pale. here is the line of thunderstorms that moved across the area. not what we think about in february. but the temperatures in the last few days have supported that. here is what happened, as the storms
