wang talked upon the fragility issue.e frailty which i think of as not doing well given that an injury happens. that's something like dying. the third is the environment, which we heard about, and we'll hear more about today, changes also with aging. the biomechanics i think can help us understand the frajilt part, and why -- fragility part, and why it is easier for a person to be injuried as they age. i want to talk about length scales. this is the way engineers tend to think about things. if we talk about the smallest length scale, we can look at material property changes in the human body, and we are all aware of things like off the prosis -- osteoporosis that occurs with age. also the percent of the bone that is inorganic compound goes down with aging. those are separate and distinct characteristics that both change with age. both tend to reduce the fracture, toughness with bone. in fact, there are other factors that seems like every time we learn something new about aging, they turn out to be something new with aging

i'm jenelle wang. it's 5:00 this tuesday. i'm kristen sze. police wondering why a suspect killed. they have not found a weapon relating to the suspect. terry? >> the official and brief statement from oakland police says no weapons have been found. the investigation is underway. a lot more to the story than that though. take a look at the scene of the shooting. this is trask avenue not far from the 5800 block of bancroft. this is where the man was shot. it all began just a couple blocks away at a domestic violence report at a laundromat. the man who had been hitting a woman ran away. two other officers see him. again just around the corner from the laundromat. police say there was a confrontation. not giving details on thats and and for some reason both fers pulled their weapons and shot the man killing him. no weapons at the scene. all we know about the man is he was 37 years of age. called several times at several numbers as well at the oakland police department. and no one has much in the way of any additional information along these lines as far as an idea. this happened last n

janelle wang joins us with more. >> jan brewer is going to appear three hours from now she will fly back to continue her re-election campaign and this big showdown is coming one day before election day. it's over senate bill 1070 signed into law by the governor. it's an attempt to crack down on illegal immigration in their state. it allows police officers to check the immigration status of people they pull over. opponents say it will lead to the racial profiling of latinos. this past summer, parts of the bill were blocked after the obama administration took the arizona law to court. they will try to unblocks the injunction in front of the ninth circuit court of appeals. large demonstrations. some say its bad panel for arizona. one judge is latino immigrant who says he was almost wrongfully deported decades ago but our legal analyst it could be good for arizona because two of the judges tend to be more conservative and tend to give the states more flexibility with theirs laws. dean johnson will talk more about it at 6:30. >>> this morning, the giants may be less than 24 hours away from wi

janelle wang is here with more. >> governor jan brewer is set to testify. she will fly back to arizona to continue her re-election campaign. this big showdown is coming one day before election day. the fight is over arizona senate bill 1070 signed into law. the law is an attempt by the state lawmakers to crack down on illegal immigration in their state. it allows police officers to check immigration status of people they pull over. they say it will lead to the racial profiling of latinos. parts of the bill were blocked after the obama administration put the arizona to court. this morning arizona will try to unblock the injunction from front of three judges. the hearing is taking place in san francisco because the court is based here and lesson to federal cases in nine western states including arizona. some say it's a bad for arizona, one of the judges is a latino immigrant. he is the son of mechanics can immigrants. the panel is expected to come back with a decision in the weeks or months. large demonstrations are expected outside the courthouse this mornin

in oak lawn, judy wang, wgn news. >>> man from st. charles was charged with sexually assaulting his son's baby- sitter. police say michael listee attacked his son's baby-sitter tuesday morning. she managed to dial 911 but was unable to talk. police traced the call to a home on south second street in st. charles. listee answered the door and was taken into cust dee. baby-sitter frequently taken care of his ten month old son. >>> man has been charged in the murder of a jewelry store owner. the man is charged with home invasion, robbery and first- degree murder. police say he and a second man broke into miller's home on october 27. miller and his teenage son were bound with duct tape. the teen was not injured but miller had been severely beaten and he died six days later. the man was arrested after officials matched his finger print. the identity of his accomplice remains unknown. rio thompson is the second person sentenced in the murder of the parents of gerard mcclendon. thompson was sentenced to 120 years in jail for killing ruby and

jenelle wang with new information on the suspect and investigation. jenelle? >> hi, kristen.'m at chp headquarters in san francisco where the suspect is being held and questioned. 51-year-old craig carlos valen tino. he told officers he was suicidal because of marital problems and very sorry for all the trouble he's caused and let the situation get out of hand. it started just after 7:00 this morning. the suspect drove on to the westbound lanes of the bay bridge and stopped his ford explorer in the middle of traffic. valentine no called a local radio station and said he was threatening to blow up his s.u.v. with a bomb. officers saw the suspect brandish what looked like a gun and then throw it into the water. the suspect later told officers it was just a toy-like pellet g gun. his 16-year-old daughter was in the cars. she ran to a patrol call. he apparently called family members telling them he loved him. about an hour later he surrendered to police. westbound traffic remains closed as officers checked for explosives. it was driven to the bomb squad but nothing was found. sho

jenelle wang is here with maybe some new views of what happened. jenelle?> eric, even though the u.s. government cannot explain what created this long vapor trail, most say it was most likely from an airplane. there have been similar incidents where jets were mistaken for missiles. it was captured just 35 miles off the coast of los angeles north of catalina island. the navy, the air force and other officials say they did not fire any missile but it has similarities of an actual ballistic middle launch. the glints of light from the center looks like exhaust coming from a rocket but it's most likely something else. >> also could be a jet aircraft trail from something you're looking at horizontally. this is almost looking to the eye as though it's vertical. >> more experts are ruling out the rocket theory this morning because the vapor trail appeared to have altered its course and rockets just don't do that. radar didn't pick anything unusual but the u.s. military doesn't have any information to confirm it wasn't a rocket. >> those mystery bullet tin boards li
