the cause of the washburn fire is under investigation. and it is because of that fire that an air quality advisory is in effect for parts of the bay area today. get ready to see some hazy skies in the east and north bea. kpix 5 mary lee explains. >> reporter: the washburn fire in the yosemite national park is about 150 miles away from the bay area. but winds are expected to carry smoke from the fire into parts of the region. because of this, the bay area air quality management district has issued an air quality advisory for the north bay and east bay on monday. air quality officials say even though you may see hazy skies, smoke particles are expected to stay in the upper levels of the atmosphere. >> so we want to take that precautionary measure to know you may see some visual impacts, some smoke that is aloft. but we are expecting the air quality to be in the moderate range around the bay area. so we want to make sure that people are aware of the difference between what tear seeing and what is actually going on. >> reporter: air quality o

let's look at the visible satellite picture, washburn fire sending a plume of smoke to the south lake tahoe area. you notice the shift is more northward, out of the bay area. moderate air quality for yosemite there are part of the sierra foothills that are in the moderate to poor category, here locally we have moderate her quality -- air quality. but the concern is even of the washburn fire smoke stays out of the bay area and is mainly over eastern california, the air district is concerned as the sea breeze drops off overnight, that the marsh fire and pollution from that smoke could lead to higher pollution levels from that. and air quality advisors up before eastern contra costa county not just today, but tomorrow as well. the forecast is for good air quality for the entire bear area. it is during that -- the overnight hours that there is concern. larry: we will see you in a few minutes with the seven-day forecast. new, contra costa sheriffs office says it has arrested this man, and connection to three sexual assaults. is accused of two rapes in 2017 and attempted rate in 2020. owens

the washburn fire still producing plenty of smoke. some of that smoke still being blown from east to west, but the winds are going to shift and push the smoke from west to east. shifting winds at ground level complicate the efforts of the ground crews and the weather conditions overall aren't helpful. temperatures in the mid-90s. humidity below 20%. the winds aren't that strong, but they have been shifting. they are gone from the east to the west-southwest, only gusting up to around 10 miles per hour, but that shift in wind direction means the fire crews do have to reallocate resources and that's going to make the efforts much more complicated over the next 24 hours. at least 25% containment for now. >> not an easy job. mother nature can make it a lot harder. paul, thank you. >> now, let's talk more about that fire in yosemite. more than 500 firefighters are still fighting the flames from the washburn fire. mandatory evacuation orders are in place for the community of wawona shaded in red on the map. the yellow area is a fire advisory
