really, washington post? is that what the people who know mitt romney and dick cheney told you to say? there's more reporting. where cheney's beliefs and policies are rooted in conservative ideology, romney's tend to be driven by analytical problem sauving. this is crack washington post reporting. emphasis on the word crack, based on what they were told by romney sources. trust us, he has nothing to do with dick cheney. pay no attention to the fund-raiser tomorrow. my favorite is from vin weber of minnesota. mr. weber incests with a straight face to the washington post who dutifully wrote it down, quote, this does not look to me like bush/cheney redux. what evidence does mr. weber have that the romney campaign is not a repeat of bush and cheney. he told the washington post, at the broader advisory level, everyone who was around cheney and bush are around romney. wait, back to the talking points. i don't see a lot of overlap there. so they have nothing to do with each other, they're not even advised by the sam

it wasn't the "washington post." i can assure you that there's no story in the post that accurately describes the reasons for the break-in before 1973 or exactly how it happened. and there's certainly no story about the cover-up. and of course the cliche about watergate always was the cover-up was worse than the crime. it was the legal process really that brought watergate to the culmination that we all know. but also burt of the chief prosecutor. and as i said, the press coverage insulated him from any political pressures being exerted on his investigation. hugh sloan was one of those who worked for the committee to re-elect the president, who was telling the truth to the fbi and to prosecutors. he was also telling the same truth to woodward and bernstein insofar as he knew it. so -- and there were others like him. particularly a bookkeeper named judith hoback, who was interviewed by the fbi six times, all times away from lawyers for the rnc or the committee to re-elect. so she was telling the fbi the truth. and it

they are based off the "washington post" story. the "washington post" stands by their story. in fact, the romney campaign went in there with full force trying to get them to retract it and they refused to. here's what the romney campaign has a problem with, that they say mitt romney left bain capital in 1999. that's actually not true. he remained as president and ceo and sole owner of bain capital until 2001. so many of these cases happened after 1999 but there were multiple examples of bain investing in companies that sent jobs overseas before 1999. so we'll take it either way. but we stand by these ads. mitt romney made millions of dollars in personal profits by investing in companies that sent jobs overseas. that's fact. >> getting to the tax issue, what about the fact that it's undisputed that senator mccaskill, bill nelson and other endangered democratic senators are not supporting the president's own tax proposal, neither is chuck schumer. >> well, i'm not sure that is actually the case. but you're talking about the tax proposal yesterday that congress should act -- >>

the obama ads are overstating what the "washington post" story said.point of this is that the romney campaign response to this. probably the first example of a clumsy response to this took them several days to respond directly to the "washington post" but going there and demanding retraction. finally, romney campaign is now, is opening up a new ad campaign against the president. accusing him of negative attack. cast him as a politician. to me, that's a sign the ads are working. if they are true or false, they're somewhere in the middle here. the response on this to the romney campaign has tried to be above this. it's probably not working out all that well for them. because the attacks right or wrong are hurting him a little bit. >> john: fact check just responded, minutes ago, to stephanie cutter's letter saying her arguments are all wet. if this were to stick on mitt romney, charles, could that hurt him in the all-important swing states? >> of course it will hurt him. this would be a case of the triumph of mendacity. this is an outright lie. factcheck

residents no longer support mayor vincent gray according to a new poll out by the "washington post." it is the latest fallout from the mayor's ongoing campaign corruption scandal. fox 5's melanie alnwick is live in northwest with the details. >> reporter: wisdom, the "washington post" surveyed 1002 adult d.c. residents and if the first time since 2006, slightly more of them said they believe the city is moving in the wrong direction. when asked about mayor gray and whether he should resign, 54% said yes, gray ought to resign. 37% said he should not. 45% of the people polled say city matters are on the wrong track versus 40% would believe the opposite but that is still nowhere near the depths of from the early 1990s when 70% of resident felt that d.c. was in bad shape. when asked about gray's handling of his job, only 29% approved. on creating jobs, the majority said he is not doing a good job. more than 60% said he is not hoppest or trustworthy or running an ethical administration. -- he is not honest. >> the mayor has been consistent in his statements that he has no plans to resign,
