debbie wasserman schultz is addressing a platform committee there in washington, d.c.l of talk about one of the major concessions being influenced over that platform committee. a lot of bernie sanders supporters saying because of the role he's played in the primary contest he should have an outside voice on that committee. dr. larry sabato, i believe you are still with me, you just heard debbie wasserman schultz, what do you make of that? >> it is interesting because she's a controversial figure in the sanders' campaign, or most of the senior people would like to see her exit as dnc chair. hillary clinton's got to make some concessions to bring the sanders troops on board. i think sanders will be reasonable himself, but many of his backers, particularly young people, this is their first presidential election. they have to have a reason to come in and some platform planks borrowed from bernie sanders might very well do it. >> i want to ask you the same question that i asked christina earlier from the clinton campaign, the idea of the platform that we talk about here a f

i would like to thank the chair, congresswoman debbie wasserman schultz for this opportunity. this is my second time on the drafting committee and it's a phenomenal moment for all of us and also to the chairman, congressman elijah cummings. this is a very powerful opening statement to set a standard for us to work from. and so i come to this drafting committee is a former single mother on public assistance. i believe that it is so essential for democrats to continue to fight to lift people out of poverty into the middle class and also to make sure that those who have achieved the middle class do not fall into the ranks of the poor. secondly, i think it's extremely important to use this moment that we have in order to develop a platform that will unify the party and that is going to defeat donald trump. we are a big party, a big tent party and i think that our platform should and will reflect this. as the cochair of the progressive caucus and former chair of the black caucus, the first time i registered to vote was with shirley chisholm who encouraged me to vote. i went to miam
