live in waterloo, jordee kalk, kcrg-tv9. as jordee mentioned, the city of waterloo settled a handful of cases this year after lawsuits accused police officers of using excessive force. one of those came in january when the city million dollar settlement with the family of derrick ambrose junior. a police officer shot and killed him during a foot chase in 2012. ambrose was 22. the city also settled three other cases recently. in one of them, an officer is accused of slamming a 17 year old boy face-first onto a sidewalk outside a hospital. an open records request shows the city paid the teenager to keep him quiet about a settlement. in another incident, the same he then used it to allegedly shock a 31- year-old man who was helping with crowd control. and a third incident involved a 13-year-old girl whom officers allegedly handcuffed. in all three cases, the police department justified the use of force. meteorologist chris havely joins us now. chris, the storms have left and the skies should be clearing overnight? a cold front

"to ask for first degree murder based on one statement? she pushed my buttons. they say it came after a dangerous high speed chase in waterloo. t-v nine's jordee kalk joins us live from waterloo. jordee, this happened months ago. has that officer faced any charges? no. the main police officer in question is adam wittmayer. he will not face any criminal charges. not warranted because jurors could potentially understand why wittmayer was upset. but for 24-year-old montavis keller, that's not the case. police say he's the man who led the high speed chase. authorities say the chase reached 90 miles per hour, and went in and out of the city of waterloo. police say keller finally stopped after spike strips were laid. police then say keller hit the strips, and nearly hit officer whitmayer. however police chief dan trelka tells us this behavior seen here by officer whitmayer is department. "even though the officer was almost struck under any circumstances we don't condone that type of behavior that's why we issued an internal investigation and ultimately disciplined the officer" " trelka did not go into the details of that discipline

waterloo police are looking for whoever shot someone in waterloo overnight. we just spoke with police within the last hour. waterloo police tell us gunfire hit one person in the leg in the 300 block of newell street. police responded to the call around 9 last night. another car took the person with the gunshot wound to the hospital. police tell us the victim suffered non-life threatening involved. investigators have not made any arrests. gunfire also hit a home on waterloo's west side. officers responded to a house at 903 west mullan avenue around 10:00 last night. our crew on scene saw what appeared to be several bullet holes in the siding and a window. police found shell casings at the scene. no injuries from the shooting but, at this time, also no arrests. waterloo police are also looking for 2 people who robbed a liquor store last night, just east of downtown. this happened in between the 9:45. police responded to a robbery of the new star liquor at 1309 lafayette street. officials say the 2 people were wearing masks as they robbed the store. a woman accu

court documents show lieutenant payne said another driver cut him off in waterloo. the documents show he then hit the other vehicle and grabbed the driver. the department put payne on administrative leave. a former cedar rapids substitute teacher accused of having an inappropriate relationship with a student went to jail today. but she was only there herself in to the linn county jail, and bonded out. her hearing is set for exactly 2 weeks from today. a judge issued a warrant for her arrest yesterday, saying she violated her no-contact order with the victim. she pleaded not guilty earlier this month to a charge of sexual exploitation by a school employee. haglin admitted to the relationship, which involved sex, to tv9, earlier this year. the cedar rapids school district says administrator s mishandled the initial investigation. washington high school principal mike johnson, and the school district's h-r director, jill cirivello, all resigned as a result. let's turn now to meteorologist justin gehrts who's out live at iowa city west ahead of tonight's friday night li

waterloo's police chief dan trelka told some to step down after 5 years in the position. that's what two officers told kcrg-tv 9 today. we tried to reach out to chief trelka and waterloo mayor quentin hart but were unable to get a hold of them. kcrg-tv9's samantha myers joins us in the studio. samantha, you spoke with city council members today -- and, with some on the council, it sounds like two council members who both say they've been completely in the dark about it, and are frustrated. councilmen steve schmitt says the mayor never contacted any of the council members to let them know what was happening. he says he's troubled by a lack of transparency and communication among city leaders. her four-year-old daughter gracie was found unresponsive in their waterloo home last year. the autopsy shows she died of severe head trauma. kwwl's elizabeth amanieh is live in the newsroom with more. elizabeth amanda-after more than a year of searching for answers-police believe they're now a step closer in justice for gracie. alledgedly failed to stop physical abuse that lead to her daughter's death. the criminal complaint claims kristi's fiance - chad little had been living with with kristi and her two children gracie and her brother. the boy allegedly told police "little would physically beat" gracie. multiple witnesses say they saw visible injuries on kristi while she was dating little. a month after gracie died, we spoke with gracie's grandmother and aunt who said they believed the injures fou o jennifer fairbank "gracies in a much better place. i know she's with god and she's with her aunti heather. and she's happy, and she won't have to feel anymore pain." little is currently serving time in jail for theft and burglary. he has not been charged in connection with cas

brown's death was the fist homicide in waterloo of the year. new this morning, a crash involving an atv killed a kalona woman this weekend. the iowa state patrol says 28-year-old alex merritt of iowa city was driving an atv at 100 shiloh drive, early yesterday morning. investigators say merritt and a passenger, 22-year-old elizabeth lenton , were ejected from the atv after it rolled. lenton died on the way to to university of iowa hospitals and clinics. we don't know his injuries at this time. a bicycle crash killed a 10-year-old boy in davenport. police responded to the 39 hundred block of rockingham road on friday night. investigators say the boy was riding his bike down a hill. he lost control and struck a tree. paramedics pronounced him dead at the scene. authorities are not releasing the boy's name until family members are notified. protests against the bakken pipeline got violence started after construction crews destroyed native american burial and cultural sites. authorities say protesters injured four security guards and two guard dogs
