may help people who deserve it from falling by the wayside. christine? >> i am wondering what your thoughts might be on whether some of these wrongheaded ideas translate to lawmakers for example state attorneys general or members of congress or state legislators? do these ideas have influence? >> i think they do. i give various examples. i could have killed several books with other examples. in areas that c e i interested in, whether it is the proper role of state attorneys general or the statute of limitations which became unpopular in the academic literature and without the overthrow we would not have had -- when it ceases to be respectable to defend the ocean like strict application for stopping unity or various other old limits on liability, there will still be some who resist because there are strong minded judges especially on the supreme court but most are somewhere in the middle edge if they aren't pulling either way. they don't have a law review articles, and citizens united, we have a really strong minded bunch of supreme court justices replace

so so much got lost by the wayside. and, of course, the best example that i could give that all of you are familiar with is the negroes' burial ground in downtown, right, new york. how it was the black cemetery all the way throughout the 18th century, got destroyed in 1795 because of real estate speculation, what else in new york? so the cemetery was taken over to make ground for, to lay, lay ground for new lots to be sold, houses to be built, etc., etc. and then there was the problem of the archives, the earliest new york archive was established by john pintard, very well-known, white elite man. in 1804 the new york historical society. but black new yorkers had to wait until the 1920s to, for arturo schaumberg to establish the schaumberg center. and yet, basically, the archives were ultimately my only resource. it's the only place i had to go to since my family had begin me so little and half of a story. so what i do in the book, and i do want to point this out, is the book unfolds on two levels. on one level the story

then, it kind of falls by the wayside. is there any sense of urgency. is there room to get something dune done on this issue? >> i think it is an important issue. i am not sure it is as important as the lack of jobs or national security. it is an important issue. i don't approach this issue theoretically, i approach it from a real life experience. my parents were immigrants, my grandparents, my wife's parents. i have grown up around immigration. it is an important part of our legacy and a critical part of the future. we can't be the only country that doesn't enforce their immigration laws. >> i want to get to the subject of syria. you have been very outspoken there. obviously, so many americans have been following closely the events in the middle east at this point. you are putting forth a resolution asking the u.s. to separate with syria and pull the diplomates out. how does that stop this regime from turning on its own people? is that enough? >> a couple things. the united states should be the leading voice in the world condemning what's happening in
