i want to have a special welcome to our valley christian and our students from beijing. yeah, they came all the way over here to celebrate this wonderful event and gosh this is all about family. it's all about extended family. i want to welcome everyone here to the year of the ram celebrations. this is a kickoff. we're kicking it off. we're cleaning our area. i want to thank julie christensen for being here and supervisor mar for being here and dpw and muhammad is here and our police department our fire department, all of the agencies working together with our community based agencies to celebrate. keep everyone safe and enjoyable. we're going to hear a lot of fire crackers and you heard norman already and he is warming up and a big parade and just the warm up today but we're excited with this community flower fair. i want to give a great thank you to our chinese chamber of commerce for having been here from the very start. all of their wonderful leadership. eddy is here, rose is here. the entire chamber has been doing this for many decades and we have been growing it fo

welcome to the show, deborah. tell us how this program began 20 years ago. >> the program began 20 years ago. our founder was an environmentalist and an activist and an artist in the 1970's. she started these street sweeping campaigns in the city. she started with kids. they had an exhibition at city hall. city officials heard about her efforts and they invited her to this facility. we thought it would coincide with our efforts to get folks to recycle it is a great educational tool. since then we have had 95 professional artists come through. >> how has the program changed over the years? how has the program -- what can the public has an artist engage with? >> for the most part we worked with metal and wood, what you would expect from a program like ours. over the years, we tried to include artists and all types of mediums. conceptual artists, at installation, photographers, videographers. >> that has really expanded the program out. it is becoming so dynamic right now with your vision of interesting artists in ga
