cnn's david mattingly is in west, texas, for us. david, do we know anything about this arrest? what can you tell us? >> one of the people involved with the emergency medical services at the time, responding to the explosion that rocked west, texas, several weeks ago. what we're being told, according to what happened in federal court on friday, he was arrested for possession of materials to make a bomb. authorities were tipped off to this by a resident of the area who was described as having unwittingly taken possession of these materials from bryce reed. now, these materials included a small pipe, caps, a fuse, also some powder chemicals that are used to make a bomb. officials at this point are not saying if there's any connection between this arrest and the explosion at the plant. reed was a very high profile figure in the days after the explosion, speaking to cnn, giving a nationally televised interview talking about how upset everyone was in the community, how devastated everyone was by this disaster. he was also a very high profile, delivering a eulogy for one of the fallen

bryce reed is a volunteer west far paramedic who happened to be fired just two days after the emergency and now the sheriff's department says that they went to a home in abbott texas near west of an acquaintance of reed was given a box which contained explosive material according to a complaint by the a.t.f. bryce reed admitted to being in possession to those materials and then he was a resident however over the weekend his. attorney said that he is not guilty that he is not in any way linked to the explosion and is a very interesting character because he was seen all over the town of west in the aftermath of the explosion consoling families and he even spoke at the memorial which was attended by president obama and spoke for more than five minutes about a fellow firefighter cyrus reed who was killed in the explosion so he's been a very visible figure in the aftermath of the west explosion and as we said earlier there is no known at link between this man and the explosion so far this plant has been under investigation since two thousand and six and has fallen under the scrutiny of hazard material companies it's found under the scrutiny of the e.p.a. among the lind

criminal investigation, a criminal investigation, into the deadly explosion that happened over the west texasant last month. the director of the texas department of safety has said we want to make sure no stone goes unturned and all the facts related to this incident are uncovered. so so after weeks of reports saying the blast should have been the result of some accident, they are opening a criminal investigation into the cause. that's all i can tell you about the criminal investigation. that's all we know. that said, also in west texas today, a volunteer paramedic who was one of the first people to arrive at the scene of that massive explosion, a paramedic was arrested today. he was charged with possession of a destructive device. that destructive device was a pipe bomb. authorities responded to a home in abbott, texas where they found sections of a pipe, end caps, fuses and explosive nitrate. residents of the home said this had belonged to this paramedic who had passed it on to them for some reason. the paramedic faces ten years in prison if convicted. so both of these things happened today

dozens of people were injured in the storms and tonight in west texas authorities announcing they have completed their investigation into the massive blast that killed 14 people last mom. criminal activity is not ruled out. they have not pinpointed the cause yet but they are focused on a golf cart which was found at the site of the explosion. >> there is a history of golf carts actually starting fires. they are operated by batteries -- they will hold those charges and they have had failures and there is data out there to check out where they have been recalled. so that has not been eliminated. >> other causes could be an electrical short or a case of arson. between 28 and 34-tons of night rate exploded and also triggered two explosion simultaneously. they are ruling the case undetermined. >>> we saw some rain but now we are dealing with fog. already foggy at half moon bay. tomorrow the fog will clear about 10 and good temperatures -- saturday and sundays winds pick up into sunday afternoon. fog will be pushing into the east bay by 6:00 tomorrow morning just patchy fog in the north bay
