it knocked down trees in western pennsylvania. earlier the heavier rain soaked virginia at james madison university on-campus tunnel turned into a river and floodwaters formed lakes on campus. >>> tropical storm joaquin is strengthening and heading west and expected to become a hurricane soon. meteorologist eric fisher of our boston station wbz has more on all of this wet weather. >> the next several days the biggest issue is about the rainfall. flood watches are out from north carolina up into new england. the same area we are going to keep tabs on as we get through these next several days and into the weekend. all told it's a pattern that is alarming for meteorologists here. we have a lot of tropical storm moisture and a trough in the southeast and that corrals that moisture along the east coast and some places have seen flash flooding and as well had to deal with high rain totals to soak the ground and we call that a precurser event that could factor into all of this. the track has shifted farther to the west and slow movement

there's some rain in western pennsylvania. we need the rain.e're trying to get some of that here overnight tonight. but this line of showers about 9:00 is a cold front. cooler weather coming in and falls apart as it moves across the philadelphia area. we'll see increasing clouds tonight and this is followed by cooler weather tomorrow and bit of breeze. see how long that cool air sticks around here in the 7 day forecast i'll look at that coming up. >> thank you at 9:02 new this morning we know two people were injured after an accident in olney this was just after 1:00 this morning fifth and west roosevelt boulevard and one of those cars rolled over and slammed into a building. because of the crash it is under investigation. >> and mother charged with dui this morning after this crash. university city. and officers were called to 34 and market streets around 2:30 a.m. investigators say the woman 1 10-year-old and 2-month-old were both in the car at the time of the crash. all three were taken to the hospital. but, so far no word on their injuries.

all the storms are moving west into western pennsylvania and the great lakes. and they will stay there. right now we're looking at mainly clear skies in the city. mostly clear, except for temperatures at 75 degrees. so it's pretty comfortable. very, very dry. this high pressure system that is over us right now will stay put for several more days. and so the drought continues around the tri-state area. we're moderately dry now in a lot of locations, including most of long island. especially through the county and back through northeastern new jersey down towards central new jersey where the rainfall deficits have been enormous in these locations. now, this is for the year. this is how far below average we are in terms of rainfall since the first part of the year. central park, more than 6.5 inches. islip, more than nine average inches of rainfall. so we all need the rain desperately. it's been very, very dry especially the last several months. and all of your weekend plans it will be nice, sunny and dry. the heat does return on monday, that is when we're back up
