it's happening in the willow glen neighborhood of san jose. nbc bay area's anser hassan has a warning for pet owners. >> reporter: this is a cat attacked with a bow and arrow recovering after last week's surgery. >> it is extremely alarming. when you have two incidents, you know, for us we're thinking it's intentional and malicious. >> reporter: san jose's animal services got two calls of cats being attacked by a bow and arrow. first was the second is this cat who lives wisdom his own nearby. the owner since put up signs warning residents to protect their pets. >> the honestly hope they find out who did this, arrest that person because this is cruel. there is no purpose to it. it's completely senseless. >> reporter: both cats survived and are recovering. police still don't have a suspect, but for many of the residents, there is concern. not just over the cats being targeted, but alarm over being attacked with a bow and arrow. >> i don't know if it's a hatred of cats or just a disregard for living creatures. i'm not sure. but somebody who does

police have surrounded an area in the willow glen neighborhood. i do want to show you exactly where this is all happening. officers right now at the scene of booksin avenue and georgetta drive which is where we find matt keller live with what is happening there right now. matt? >> reporter: good morning, jessica. right across the street is booksin elementary school. they have a perimeter set up around this area, a huge perimeter, if you go down here this is booksin avenue, you can see that it ends at curtner avenue and through curtner avenue on the other side there is presentation high school and st. christopher elementary school. a lot of schools in this area, a very nice neighborhood and this neighborhood is awake this morning because of all the police activity that is taking place here this morning. now, this is video that i will show you of some of the police cars in this area doing patrols. i just confirmed with police that a woman called into officers, a man was running down the street with a shotgun or long gun. another man was chasing him.

( james ) in the south bay... parents and students in the oak grove school district are concerned that several elementary could soon be closed. the district says it is facing a budget deficit of millions of dollars .... and may have no choice but to consolidate schools. district officials met last night to try and figure out may need to be closed down. the district says it has already approved a plan to layoff staff and offer early retirement in an effort to balance the budget. parents we spoke with say nobody wants their child's school to close down.
