wjz is live at the scene. meghan mccorkell has more for us. >> reporter: it really is an all-out search for the suspect. as we have been standing here, we see more and more officers ons scene, on route 1 here in laurel. just minutes ago, i spoke with an eyewitness who told me that he actually saw that police officer get shot. he told me that there was a man outside of a red pickup truck, who was pacing alongside of the road. now, officers were called out for a possible gunman in this area. they say when the officers approached that man who was pacing, that man fired at least five shots at that officer. he says that the officer fell to the ground, onto the grass. he said the gunman, that eyewitness tells me the gunman jumped the guardrail, ran into the woods nearby. they say the officer's partner tried to chase the gunman and started firing shots into the woods. but it appears that that gunman did get away. the only description we really have of him is a man in his 30s, wearing a black jacket and gray sweat pan
