wjz is live at the scene. meghan mccorkell has more for us. >> reporter: it really is an all-out search for the suspect. as we have been standing here, we see more and more officers ons scene, on route 1 here in laurel. just minutes ago, i spoke with an eyewitness who told me that he actually saw that police officer get shot. he told me that there was a man outside of a red pickup truck, who was pacing alongside of the road. now, officers were called out for a possible gunman in this area. they say when the officers approached that man who was pacing, that man fired at least five shots at that officer. he says that the officer fell to the ground, onto the grass. he said the gunman, that eyewitness tells me the gunman jumped the guardrail, ran into the woods nearby. they say the officer's partner tried to chase the gunman and started firing shots into the woods. but it appears that that gunman did get away. the only description we really have of him is a man in his 30s, wearing a black jacket and gray sweat pan

wjz is live. political reporter pat warren takes a closer look at the numbers. >> good evening, kai. good evening. everybody. the numbers indicate that a lot of voters are either neutral or just flat-out don't recognize the candidate. >> first, out of the gate in may. and leading the race is lieutenant governor anthony brown. according to the gonzalez poll, brown wins with 41% of the vote. attorney general doug gansler waited until september to announce his candidacy and showed significantly less support. he polls 20 points behind brown with 21%. delegate heather mizeer runs a distant third with 5% of the vote. 33% of voters polled are undecided. >> the primary is about 8 months away. people probably aren't paying that much attention yet. >> reporter: the numbers bear that out. a total of 56% of voters are either neutral or don't recognize the lieutenant governor. 72% are neutral or don't recognize the attorney general. montgomery county delegate heather mizeer is the least recognized. >> reporter

wjz is live. derek valcourt is live in north baltimore wmore on the charges. -- with more on the charges. derek? >> reporter: well, this marks the first time in anne arundel county, that someone has been charged with negligent manslaughter while texting. >> reporter: 30-year-old jonathan wesley roberts of virginia was a father, brother and son, who loved riding his motorcycle. march 10th, he was riding north here in gambrels. that's when then 19-year-old elizabeth haley myers drove a motorcycle into his path, as she tried to get to route 3. roberts died in the resulting accident. the anne arundel county state's attorney says they can prove myers was texting while driving. >> we have an eyewitness who was walking in the area. he saw her driving with one hand on the wheel and the other hand looking down and texting. we also have cell phone records, which confirm that she was texting at the time. >> reporter: myers now faces several charges, including negligent manslaughter. and she's getting little

wjz is live.ique griego has more on a sewage spill, sending thousands of gallons of waste into that water. >> right now, the pumping station is undergoing construction. and the county says the spill happened after a temporary system failed. >>> warning signs after a pumping station failure sent at least 50,000 gallons of untreated sewage, flowing out of the water. >> last week, it was really bad. a really strong smell. >> jane waller is used to catching a whiff of waste. but monday, the smell was unbearable. that's when the at any point of possible works first noticed the problem. >> we were notified of a manhole overflowing into the system. >> reporter: crews located the source of the backup to this manhole at the pumping station at norman avenue. the station is undergoing major renovation. and during construction is using a temporary system. >> the bypass had failed. >> reporter: once the sewage pops the top on the manhole, the only way it can go is downhill. and in this case, it flowed right in
