this happened very quickly, wolf. the grand jury was presented this case today and returned the indictment hours later. the indictment is for murder for the unlawful killing with malice or forethought, that in the state of south carolina. the judge has been named but not the date of when this is going to go to court. this indictment unlike these other cases that we've been following involving police shootings, it was expected. now, the reason why is because the video, essentially, that went viral showing this incident just a few days later and the fact that officer michael slager has been sitting in jail ever since having been quickly fired from the department arrested and charged with murder back in april. so just to remind our viewers, it was the cell phone video showing the officer, slager chasing walter scott who had been initially pulled over for a faulty brake light seen firing his gun eight times, five of which hit scott, who was pronounced dead on the scene. the reaction now swift from all sides today. this is

>> good afternoon wolf. so first his condition was updated just about an hour ago from critical which is where he came in last night, in critical condition, to serious. hospital officials saying that his wounds did not require surgery but he will be staying here and will be monitored for a few more days. now he is apparently talking to authorities, a source telling cnn that he is talking to police about what their plan was. he told authorities they were supposed to get into a car with prison seamstress joyce mitch who will they befriended who has been charged with helping them escape escape they were going to go to mexico. when she didn't show up that night they had to begin walking on their own. he's telling authority he is ditched his partner about five days ago because he was slowing him down. we know from other sources that richard matt had fallen ill in the last couple of days of their walk there through that very rough terrain. i want to talk to wolf about the security at this hospital behind me where

wolf? >> this is the second time that the affordable care act has been upheld by the united states supreme court. so you're talking to legal experts, pamela. are the legal challenges legal? forget about the political challenges the legal challenges over? >> i think the sense right now, wolf is that obamacare is here to stay. that there will continue to be challenges in the lower courts. in fact there are some right now in the pipeline. but none that could have such a big impact as striking down this provision would have caused. because, again, this was key to the affordable care act, these subsidies. and i think what you're hearing from talking to people is that this is sending a message to the challengers, to take this up with your politicians, not in the court and it's interesting. if you look at what chief justice roberts had to say in the opinion, he talked about that. he said look, in a democracy, the power to make the law is chosen by the people. our role is more defined, to say what

wolf? >> and just north of baiji, as you know is mosul, the second-largest city in iraq taken over almost exactly a year or so ago by isis. what's the latest as far as this strategy to liberate mosul from these isis terrorists? >> well today, wolf, is the one-year airer have one-year anniversary since the fall of mosul. earlier this year we were reporting u.s. officials were saying there would be a late spring offensive to liberate mosul, but that's completely gone out the window. now, the government of haider al-abadi has appointed a general too coordinate the efforts to prepare for an offensive to take mosul but that's still months and months away and they have to secure the southern approaches to the city. baiji, the area north of baiji as well which is still under isis control. in the meantime you have hundreds of thousands, according to some u.n. estimates up to three million people homeless in iraq displaced by the fighting. up to one million from mosul itself. some of them are here i

wolf? >> tell our viewers, martin, what else we've learned about this guy roof about his actions inside the church. >> they're horrific. we already knew this was a horrendous crime but coming from those family members who have spoken to a few sur vaifrvivors they describe something beyond the pale. they say not only did the suspect sit in for one hour and after the study session came to an end began shooting at one point a young man rose up, a parishioner and said "stop, stop." and, in fact roof is quoted as saying "no, i cannot stop. you rape our women, you're taking over our country, i will not stop." and then he shot and killed the young man. and the shooting spree continued. as he was walking out he confronts an elderly woman. he says "have i shot you yet?" she says "no." he says "i'll leave you alive so you can tell others what happened here. i'm going to kill myself." then he's said to have reloaded at least five times. to imagine that stress the waiting, all of it is beyond compare.

wolf? >> miguel we're also learning new details from the coroner on richard matt who was shot and killed by law enforcement friday night. what can you tell us about that? >> reporter: yeah dressed very much like a hunter. he was pronounced dead about 10:55 p.m. after being shot in the afternoon. he had heavy clothes on heavy boots on was dressed basically for camouflaging himself in the woods. also he had bug bites on him once they got his clothes off but they realize that his body wasn't that swelled. the bites weren't that swelled. the coroner coming to the conclusion he did not look like somebody who would spend all those days out in the woods. >> all right, miguel thank you. meanwhile, we're getting new information about the final hours of the manhunt and the clues that led police to the fugitive killer. cnn's alexandra field is joining us from constable in new york. you spoke with a cabin owner who played a key role in richard matt's capture. tell us about that. >> reporter: one of man

>> wolf that's a tough one. our negotiators have been hard at work for the last several weeks in vienna. tomorrow secretary kerry and secretary moniz are prepared to fly to vienna to begin the high-level negotiations required to try to move this deal across the finish line. the fact is, there are tough issues they have to work through. i think it still remains to be seen about whether they'll succeed. the president will only accept an agreement that will shut down every pathway iran has to developing a nuclear program. it will seek a commitment for iran to cooperate with the most intrusive set of inspections ever imposed. that will be required for an agreement. iran agreed to all of this in principle in april. the question is if they'll lock in the details here at the end of june. that's the open question now. if iran is not willing to live up to those commitments, we won't be able to get a deal. if iran will verify in a verifiable way, we could get a really important agreement. >> josh earnest, thanks for joini

i'm wolf blitzer in washington. i want to welcome our viewers in the united states and around the world. let's get some analysis on what we just heard. jake tapper you're here with me. jake let's talk about iraq and isis. the president saying he's still waiting for a plan from the pentagon on training and arming the iraqi military to go ahe and fight isis. >> that's right. he said that they don't have a complete strategy as of right now, but they're looking for one from the pentagon when it comes to getting the iraqi forces trained more quickly, equipped. they're waiting for information from the iraqis presumably that's one of the things he and prime minister abadi will discuss, so that was one of the works in progress that he discussed. he also wolf, talked about ukraine, and he held out the threat of further sanctions. he said very specifically that there was a lot of discussion about making sure that russia and ukraine uphold their commitments made in the minsk agreements in march and then he said there was also

senator, you must be pretty disappointed with this decision. >> yeah wolf.fashionphysician, i think the supreme court missed an opportunity. i think we made a mistake. if they would have ruled and adhered to the literal nature of the law, maybe congress would have had a chance to take up obamacare again and try to make it less bad or fix the parts of it that are causing so many problems in our society. i really think obamacare is making all insurance more expensive and taking away choice. so i am disappointed that we've missed an opportunity here. >> for all practical purposes senator, at least for now any changes, significant changes, in obamacare, changes you as a physician, as a republican as a senator, as a presidential candidate would like those changes are going away at least for now until -- if there is a republican president that could change but at least for now you're resigned to the fact obamacare stays as-is. >> i would still like to reform it and change it and give patients back more choices on whether they can choose which doctor or which insur
