this is the location of the workshop. the patios are interconnected, and focus on the main patio and the house of the noble. the noble is the head of the compound. he is the patron of everyone living here. david webster is the archaeologist who excavated much of the noble's house. this man probably had about 200 to 300 people who were dependent on him in some way, including his wives, his brothers, his political retainers, his economic specialists, living in this patio group and the other patio groups. they're buried here. there are about 250 or 300 burials here. which are the people who were his dependents. and essentially what this is is an elaborate household. keach: the maya noble could support his household because he controlled the rich farmland surrounding the compound. the land was so fertile it could produce a surplus which fed the noble's dependents, including specialists like the artisan, who were not themselves farmers. this was the basis of the economic system of the elites in ancient copan. for the noble, th

and at this point we are in listening mode and we are showing people what we heard from the workshops and the walking audits and the discussions with you and here are the alternatives that came out or are coming out of that. and so this project in particular, i think that is the moment when we realize that we had really not been engaging people to the level that we should have and so we met with the association a few times and we went back a few times with the design workshop series and we had a series of four meetings and two of them were 3 and a half workshops with this group to do that more focused work. and what alternatives make sense to you and what are your priorities and then, we just had our last round of open houses on the 27th and the 30th of april, and we had over 600 people, come through, and those two meetings, and at this point, four out of our 6 alternatives, include, the minimal amount of parking removal that we think would work. and the parking removal that is on the table is purely for the pedestrian safety. and so it is purely to polk street in particular is one of

we take a bird eye's approach and offer classes, workshops. we have technical assistance, one-on-one consulting. we own a building in the south of market neighborhood and we rent office space on a sliding scale that comes with supportive services. we're very nice landlords. we don't hook people into long lease focus it's not a good space for them. we let them move out. we have the bay view assistance center and loan packaging. last year through the center reason san packaged 16 loans totaling $591,000. people starting businesses tend to be feel isolated so we provide them with the communities through all these approaches. last year renaissance soma and bay view searched 800 low to moderate income men and women and start businesses. 576 of those or 72% were women and 442 of those or 75% were women of color. renaissance is a small business administration womens' business center. we get sba funding for a womens' center here in san francisco and allows us to do enhance marketing for women and fashion programs and classes for women with day care an

dan sudran runs the mission science workshop in san francisco in a former high school auto shop. much of the material available here he gathered himself, on a tight budget. for the kids he serves, it is essentially free. its goals are similar to the exploratorium's, says its founder, but not completely. >> some people come in and say, "this is a mess." i said, "yeah, but it's a controlled mess." but when kids realize it's okay to have something of a mess, it's kind of like okay to just make mistakes, because the world is kind of a mess. i want all four of your guys to figure out your environment. >> reporter: sudran began his workshop two decades ago, and it seems more down and dirty than its upscale cousin across town. today a class of fourth-graders walked a few blocks from a nearby school, to learn about animal habitats. >> a lot of the teachers who come here feel somewhat overwhelmed, because they have so many other things to teach. many of them don't have a background that makes them confident in teaching it. they also realize that there's something special about science tha

it included community meetings, workshops and focus on the proposed district and also included three events that specifically focused on the future review of alterations to billions -- buildings in the district. >> one goal of this outreach was to gain a better understanding of the community's perspective regarding prioritization and review of the character defining features to address these perspectives. discussions with stake holders led to a review process with certain scopes assigned levels of review from no change in the current review process, administrative staff level overview and review at an hpc hearing. key issues raised by the community include reducing or eliminating different scopes of work, reduce and review alterations at the rear building, increasing access to property tax savings by the mills program. i will outline the department's outlines to these issues. neighborhood feedback was used to guide discussions and revisions to the ordinance. the department significantly scaled back the level of review for certain scope of work and minimized the review. the designatio

we offer team building workshop for ouincluding schools, high schools, colleges, all different types of groups. and we also offer the art supplies that are a part of the culture, as well as launching our new 1:00 am mobile app, which is the beginning of a real archive of how street art is worldwide. it's born and raised in san francisco. my brother created it. he went to cal poly and he developed it after that. the arts is something i want to put at the forefront that we have a lot of fire power in this department and so far this the app a lot of the images are from there. we had 2000 followers in the /tp*eurls month we had the app out. it's worldwide now so i'm happy for that. i don't have much to say other than the neighborhd is a difficult place to be. i have no complaints. the substation has improved the foot trafand the /skwrepbl feeling of the street. i see a lot more presence, makes me feel more comfortable. the building itself is something i undertook personally to /khraoepbl up and a lot of the issues with the building were from within. so taking this challenge on, taking th

on wednesday, may 15th, we will be hosting 50 workshops at the severn cisco state downtown campus i want to thank sf state for accommodating us. the office of small businesses planning seven workshops; i'm going to be involved in two of those myself. on thursday may 16th will be having the awards ceremony at the city club. that is confirmed. you will all be getting your invites here by next week. on tuesday may 14th we have the mega meg with the lgbt center with mumsy and -- association. on saturday may 18th have sidewalk sales; we are excited that we have 17 participating, for a while we were only getting three or four. again i would like to thank the office of small business for the outreach. when some of these neighborhoods see what the other neighborhoods are doing is catching on; i am excited that we have 17 neighborhoods here. we had a fundraising goal of 170,000 and a fundraising goal we met and raised 187,000. so thank you everybody who was involved in that. lots of phone calls. that is my president's report. we are on the buses now. the guides are in; we have guides in the offic
