world-class city is a city that tries to democratize its streets, sidewalks, plazas, playgrounds, public realms. world-class cities now are competing for the best and brightest, and they understand the quality of life is that one differentiated that establishes those that will be the leaders 5, 10, 15, 25 years from now. san francisco does not want to see its world-class status. -- does not want to cede its world-class status. means we have to be a city that is friendly to bicyclist. it means we have to restate that recognizes that we cohabitate. this is not the old days where it is about bicycles versus cars. this is about bicycles and cars. this is about, again, quality of life. i want to congratulate everyone who worked so hard to get us here. this took a lot of time, a lot of money, and at the end of the day, what did we prove? that you can delay things, but you cannot and things, so it is in the spirit of that recognition that there was a delay, but there is now a real progress that we are going to see things really take off. i'm really proud of all our team behind me and those that

it's really interesting to see all of the world class cities are investing in bicycle infrastructure. you see what london's doing, what paris is doing. you see what's going on in spain and barcelona and big cities across the united states. i think they understand that they have to find more sustainable ways of getting people around, healthier ways of getting people around and it doesn't cost a lot of money to do so. so, if we're going to continue to grow and thrive, we need to actually do these kinds of investments and it's extremely important to create an attractive public realm because it's important for the business community. the best and the brightest can live anywhere, capital can go anywhere. so, creating a city and a place where you want to be and linger and enjoy is an important part of the competitiveness strategy for cities. >> people need to get the bikes. >> and then people need to get the bikes. >> let's take a look at what we have here and bring in caroline. good to see you. thanks for joining us. you're the director of bike add vo ka see at transportation alternatives.

city of san francisco, and to see it be here. it is a wonderful sight indeed. this is a world class structure. there is nothing like it in the united states of america. one could argue there's no tower like this anywhere in the world. this is something for generations that we're going to be very proud of. we have the icon, which is the golden gate bridge. i think the bay bridge is beautiful. it always is the stepchild of the golden gate, but i think that could change. nothing will replace the putin and majesty of the golden gate, the folks will be talking about this bridge all around the world. it is absolutely spectacular. has been a work of love and passion. so many people that made this happen and kept this moving, and i want to put my hat off to all of you, and in the spirit of and had, make a point that needs to be made about this hat, and that is we are very proud that we delivered another icon. this not from the far east in asia, but from back east in new york city with a brilliant move by the golden state warriors that was lost not by all of us out here but by some folks in the media l
