i have to be honest with you, wyatt. this morning we couldn't get out of our hotel room. seeing tons of rain. then we saw a little bit of a lull over the past several hours. right now at this moment, probably the worst we've seen since we've been out here. we were thinking, okay, we're at the tail end of this. and then, bam in a split second the winds pick back up. so that's going to be the biggest concern, that this is honestly what we were expecting to see probably well into tonight and probably tomorrow. that's been a huge concern, especially given the levee system is why we felt the catastrophic effects from hurricane katrina seven years ago. that levee system has held up. here in new orleans we're not seeing the flooding we saw seven years ago. >> we knew it would the be a katrina. we are not expecting the failed levees but what have you heard? there has been flooding in some of the rural areas in southeastern louisiana. >> reporter: that's important to point out. i think it may be confusing that people see those images and confuse it with the heart of new orleans. a

let's check in with wyatt. how much of this can be expect tonight. it's nasty earlier today. >> we have had a couple healthy storms, they have been widely scattered. we have one of those isolated storms that is impacting three of the counties, howard, baltimore and carroll all with the severe thunderstorm warning through six tonight. you can see why on the radar. strong storms, packing dangerous lightning. potentially hail and a couple isolated wind gusts to 60 as it moves away, authority of columbia through the ellicott city, historic, hearing the thunder and eventually pushing west of woodlawn. we will watch this. that is the only significant storm on the immediate radar map in central maryland. we will continue to look for a hot warm evening. more on your forecast straight ahead. >> thank you. well, with the jump in gas prices over the past week or so, don't you wish your car would tell you when you are wasting gas? some hybrid cars do this a little but they cost a lot. next year car maker also make it more cost effective to save gas. roosevelt he

. >> wyatt has been following every cell of the storm. what are we looking at?>> the good news is -- the severe, immediate severe threat from tornadoes and severe thunderstorms has passed. a lot of runoff and a lot of lightning to deal with. we have flash flood concerns, for more swift water rescues, creeks and riversides and low lying areas. the bottom of hills, be careful as we have had significant heavy downpours. you can see this cell here, a tornado warning, now moving toward apg. our secondary cell moving through right now, again a lot of lighten, heavy downpours and we may not be done yet. as we look at regional view there are more scattered, large storms be back down through virginia and west virginia. we will see what happens. we will keep showers and storms in the forecast overnight and some could be severe and by the way, that threat will continue into the next 12 to 16 hours. i think we could see pop up showers and storms through the overnight and into tomorrow afternoon. more coming up. >> we have cheryl looking for damage because of the who storms

meteorologist wyatt everhart is tracking the latest of isaac. it comes seven years after the anniversary of katrina but a different storm. >> we'll get official landfall. hurricane isaac, isaac today being upgraded. it will pack winds of 80 miles an hour. contrast that with katrina which was a category five power house. of course, there have been a lot of reinforcements to the levees. isaac will produce rains. mobile, alabama, will get nailed with high winds and also a storm surge along the immediate coast, but the rainfall totals could produce 18 inches of rain in spots. oi sack will continue to move ashore, flooding most of the gulf coast and a look at your complete outlook into labor day weekend. it's minutes away. >>> we're learning more about the big sinkhole in east baltimore. now we're learning it's going to take three months to repair. heavy rain caused the road to buckle again in the 2300 block of east monument street. the sinkhole had been patched up in july. luckily businesses near the sinkhole are still open. >>> we are learning more
