i might be what you call a -- yankee. i came. down from connecticut in 1972. you got stationed in the army down here and i stayed. and i've been out with the service since 1976. i started out on the national mall in washington, spent nearly five years there. but for two winters in, 1978 and 1979, i was detailed to manassas and got to work with dennis kelly, who took me under his wing, showed me a lot of the research materials they had at the park. i did a lot of research for him at that time, and my two details at manassas probably helped me get a permanent job. when dennis kelly moved on to stones river and i then proceeded to firmly entrenched myself at manassas and as he pointed out, i've been there nearly 42 years. that doesn't mean i know everything about manassas. i know enough to know. i don't know everything but that case the park was originally established on may 10th, 1940, and originally it was only 1600 acres. that was the legislation passed by congress, but it has grown over the years. when i first started at manassas in 1980, it was 3000 acres. b
