(darya) slightly calmer winds are helping firefighters in santa barbara county battle the enormous thomas fire in southern california. it has now burned 270-thousand acres in santa barbara and ventura counties... and it is 45-percent contained. the thomas fire is currently the third-largest wildfire in modern california history. two people have been killed. the thomas fire is still threatens 18-thousand homes.
