we begin with mark zuckerberg and facebook. if you have a facebook account, you've probably reconnected with an old pal, shared photos with your family, and gotten advice from your friends on what to buy and what to read. but facebook has bigger plans. it wants to turn the entire web into one big social network. lesley stahl first talked with mark zuckerberg in 2008, and three years later, we sat down with mark again. he gave us a preview of his site's new profile page, a change that would affect the 500 million people who were then using facebook, an idea that zuckerberg had cooked up in his dorm room at harvard. >> when you first thought about this--19 years old--is this what you had in mind? did you see this far into the future, or is it way beyond what you dreamed? >> well, it's funny. i mean, when i was getting started, you know, with my roommates in college, you never think that you could build this company or anything like that, right? because, i mean--it just--and we were college students, right? >> yeah. >> i mean, we

how about the zuckerberg inc.?ç soon facebook, zuckerberg inc., will be coming public.uckerberg spent a billion dollars buying instagram, the photo company, the uplink photos and he didn't tell anyone on the board of directors. does that make you nervous about buying facebook? don't we want an active board to check the authority of a 27-year-old ceo? again, i'm going to give you a little heresy on the issue. if instagram is good for facebook, who cares? it's a private company anyhow, at least for now. however, i have no desire to serve on a board where i wouldn't be consulted. in the end, though, it's all about price for me. if facebook's priced low relative to its earnings, i want to be in on the ipo. if it's high, i don't. end of story. i actually could care less, far less about the board if zuckerberg is great. a board can check power, and we know that power can corrupt, or at least let a ceo go more wayward than he should. which brings me to chesapeake energy, which you know i think is the most forward-pushing natural gas company on earth, and you know how important

he's around the same age as zuckerberg. his mom worked for monster growing up. start-ups. he was thinking deeply about this idea and what made it grow. he told me that it was focused on the speed of uploading photos. focusing on the beauty of the product. and focusing on their ability to post to multiple networks not just picking one. and all those things are being maintained in this acquisition. i think very interesting that facebook is protecting that original vision. when you think about mobile, its importance to facebook, the fact that kevin a year ago told me that the great mobile business model has not yet been created but that's one of the things that they were focused on. that's a problem that facebook really needs to solve because as people move to mobile, facebook makes less money off of them. so he's getting one of the top mobile thinkers in tech right now joining his team. that's what they need. >> jon, you talk about parabolic growth as far as user base. but i'm interested in your opinion on the more users take photos via instagram, the fewer users

facebook's mark zuckerberg. linkedin's reed hoffman has a catch of pre-ipo stocks that will see his voting control increase over time. groupon's similar. and zynga's mark pin kas has strong majority voting power. if yahoo! had total voting control today and one could even argue if steve jobs, steve wozniak had controlled early on, the company's history would have been even messier. >> interesting to see what wall street thinks of mark zuckerberg's total control of facebook. back to google's earnings, what do you think are the main reasons investors might be skiddish? what's the reason for the drop today? >> you have the slowest revenue growth in a couple of years. and at the same time the eps was driven by the best lowest tax rate in two years. then mobile, you know, you've got the click price issue, mobile click prices are half of what you get on desktop. and then finally there's this motorola issue. colin at bgc thinks it will be negative 8% on operating earnings. and haven't heard from google how they plan to
