we are seeing a huge decline in shares of zynga and along with it, facebook. zynga down 39%. it was a huge miss for their quarter. a one sent profit. a $44 million miss on revenues. the story here, surge in cost. >> two people and then big competition from other people in the space. they are not the only game maker. and others that are out there doing much better work, apparently, than what the guys and gals are doing. i think they will be very challenged. and like i say, big read through into facebook tomorrow as well. >> 24 hours we will be dealing with the facebook results. reported as a pubically traded company. this is what zyga said. a decline due to a more challenging environment on facebook. also trade lower right now down by about eight and a half%. this stock, zynga, is trading at $3. this ipoed at ten bucks a share. >> i am shocked. shocked that people do not -- are weaning in their interest in virtual farm animals. they continuely have to come up with the next best game. that is incredibly difficult to do. think about apple every three or six months they had to co

zynga for answers. >> they were hammering zynga. this stock? why should anyone buy this stock? analysts op. the facebook call are really going to be pushing for guidance, per your earlier question. the thing with facebook, facebook has made a number of announcements and changes in the past quarter especially in the month of june, facebook ruled out a number of changes making it easier for marketers to buy mobile ads which is a big part of their strategy, also opening the door for developers to sell apps and sell app subscriptions on facebook sites, so facebook has really made it easier for a number of developers to generate more revenue for them. this could be a great new revenue stream for facebook going forward but we won't see the impact of these changes really in a second quarter so i think it's on facebook to explain how all of these changes that they've made should impact revenue going forward, and really give us that outlook. >> gene muenster was on "squawk box" from piper jaffrey, he's saying given the stock is down 16%, the

lou, do the zynga numbers present a warning for owners of facebook? >> it's a sign that zynga is becoming less important to facebook, and part of the problems is facebook started directing more traffic to games outside of zynga. >> so we'll see if there is similarly in terms of the advertising. what do you like more, facebook or amazon? >> it's a tale of two charts. the age of foolishness. let's start with the bad news, facebook. this well defined down trend from the ipo, the stock settled into a pretty nice trading range. 28 on the low end, 33 he will resistance on the high end. that now projects measured downside to $25. we're a selling of the stock ahead of the earnings, we don't like that $23 target. >> how much lower does facebook go in your view? >> 23 could be conservative in our view. it's not a good combination. >> you want to buy amazon? >> i want to be a big buyer, let's bring up the chart and i'll show you what i mean it's 15% in one day alone. that's the last time they reported earnings. we think history repeats itself. the stock setted i

these companies are not making movie if you look at zynga, groupon and pandora. they have not had any profits since their ipo. you don't see evidence that these companies should be trading higher when they are not making any money. that's a concern. >> amazon, the stocks that -- >> track record too. >> well, i would say this on amazon the track record foerngs is actually not that good. they continually will say we'll make money. >> google. groupon has been horrible. up 15% today. linkedin i don't know what kind of track record they have. they are doing okay. it's i wanting more puts traded than calls in all of these names. >> google is higher. it deserves to be higher. they are growing at 20%. trading less than 13 times the earning if you back the cash out. we can't paint all of technology with the same broad brush. >> some of the more defensive technology stocks are doing better. a lot of cash in their balance sheets. maybe not in earnings but shareholder appreciation amazon does have that track record. what do facebook's results mean for other social media stoc

facebook, apple, zynga, all big losses after earnings reports. a string of disappointment. where do we go in terms of technology? i think you need it as a huge market component in order to move higher convincingly? >> i think that's a great point. something that's really important, we do also need to make a distinction within the technology space of those names. you take a look at the way apple behaved, stock not necessarily an inexpensive one. zinga, that is an expensive one. facebook, expensive. groupon, expensive. these companies not making any money if you look at zynga, groupon, pandora, no profits since their ipos. you don't see evidence that they should be trading higher when they are not making money. that's the real concern there. >> as scott mentioned on amazon, the stocks that go up, there is a faith and hope there. we'll talk about linkedin. >> and track record too. >> i would say this. on amazon, the track record for earnings is not that good. revenue numbers consistently higher, but continually will say we'll make money in the next year. >> look at google. >>
