Hi, everyone.

I'm Jason Scott, and I work at the Internet Archive as a "Free-Range Archivist", meaning I do a bunch of tasks related to bringing in media and culture into the Archive's virtual stacks. I've helped shepherd in many terabytes of information, but few with as such personal joy as the Negativland/Over the Edge archives that are now sitting here.

I've been a fan of the band since the 1980s, attended a bunch of concerts, and enjoyed the company of various members (including Don) over the decades since I first heard Big 10-8 place and couldn't believe what was coming over the record player. To be able to aid in bringing such a mass of Over the Edge into the world and keep it available is a complete and deep-felt honor.

I'll happily respond to questions and I'll say that taking the audio and giving it descriptions, tags and context is probably years in the making. But no matter what, hitting that play button on a random show is going to be a joy for some time to come.

Where else can anyone find the cultural treasure that is "The Uncle Floyd Show"? As someone who enjoyed Uncle Floyd as he traveled through WBTB, WTVG and so many other stations, I am aware of the importance of the show to local performers and anyone who loved humor. Uncle Floyd's playing of vaudeville songs and his use of jokes that were out of date in 1890 set the bar high for cable access shows. Although these shows may be under copyright, there should be a presence by Uncle Floyd on the Internet Archive for the sake of History. Perhaps UncleFloydsAgent could upload some approved shows so that people will come to know Uncle Floyd better. I suggest something from the period where the station was so underfunded they only had one camera with a white spot in the image. It was a disappointment to me when the dot was covered with a dark mask. Bones Boy Forever!

If you're talking about this:
https://archive.org/details/Sniper_Path_of_Vengeance_-_Win95_Eng
it seems to be working fine, and why are you asking about it on the Over The Edge forum?

Hi Jason,

Your work on the archive is fantastic, so thank you for that. I am with Outernet and the archive is such a fantastic source of content to share with people who do not have Internet access. I am curious what the licenses are for the Internet Arcade collection of games? I would love to include those in our broadcast.

You can reply to me directly at thane@outernet.is.

Thanks,
Thane

Jason,

I am Robert Bates, the original creator of the music that you archived IUMA-Dimention-X-

I just wanted to thank you for doing the archive, because Over the years due to my own lack of archiving, I lost most of my work. And now that I found your archive of my work, I can now have that back to reflect on.

Hi Jason, Thank you for sharing so many helpful and precise data! My name is Ray. I'm a student working on social media data mining. I'd like to ask you two questions if you don't mind. (1) The data size for one day's tweets in your archive is approximately 700 mb, which is around 0.14% of all tweets for a day (500million tweets, nearly 500GB). Would you mind to explain a little about how did your archive collect tweets? (2) Is there an official way to use your data in research, such as citing it or adding you as co-author? Thank you very much and looking forward to your reply! Email: rocket.lsu@gmail.com
